Marantz SR6008 versus Yamaha RX-A1030 vs Denon AVR-X4000

OK...I am purchasing a 3D compatible plasma HDTV and wanting to upgrade my AVR to support upgrade one last time before retiring. Needs to support a 3D/1080P plasma HDTV, plus be capable of supporting 4K upscaling. Currently have a Denon 2807 AVR. Looking at either the Marantz SR6008, the Yamaha RX-A1030, or the Denon AVR-X4000.

Thoughts/comments?? Need help.

All three brands have made some good gear, and my guess is that you will likely be happy with any of them. I personally would pick the Yamaha, as they tend to be very reliable and competitively priced.

All are good, but I would go with the Denon myself out of those three. It includes Audyssey MultEQ XT32 and Denon's aren't too far behind Yamaha in terms of reliability. Another option to consider is going separates. Emotiva and Outlaw have great options these days.

You would have to wait on the Marantz, I do not believe they are available yet. You can always audition them in you home and send back the one you don't want.

I prefer Denon/Marantz because I love Pure Direct/ Direct 2.1/2.2. Most companies only offer PD/D 2.0, not 2.1.

But if you don't care for PD/D 2.1, and you don't care for Audyssey (I personally don't care for any room correction), then Yamaha is great. I also think Pioneer Elite is excellent.

When you say pure direct 2.1 do you mean that the sub woofer is getting a signal when you put the receiver in pure direct mode?

Stereo/ Straight (and other variations) 2.1 means the signal is being processed.

PD/D 2.1 means the signal is bypassing all processing and the analog XO sends the bass signal to the subwoofer output.

For example, I sing karaoke in my living room using a Denon 3312 and Yamaha sound mixer.

The music goes through the Denon AVR, then goes to the Mixer, but the Mic is connected to the mixer.

When I use Stereo Mode 2.1 (for the bass), the music has to go through processing (DSP), instead of bypassing processing and going directly to the mixer. This causes the music and mic to be out of sync in the form of reverberation/echo/lag.

However, when I use Pure Direct or Direct 2.1, the music and mic is in perfect sync because the music is bypassing the Denon DSP and going directly to the mixer. However, I still get all the glorious subwoofer bass!

I think the X4000 should be a little more comparable to the SR7008 than the 6008. So between the X4000 and 6008 I would definitely take the X4000.

Thanks. One thing that bugs me about my receiver is that it doesn't output sound to the sub in pure direct. But it does in "Straight" and 2 channel stereo. I only use pure direct for bass heavy music.

I can see why you might think that, but there are differences between Marantz and Denon:

However, I again want to reiterate what I stated previously, and that is that I think that most likely, one would be pleased with any of the three receivers under consideration here (though my personal preference would be for Yamaha).
