I used Roku once about 4-5 years ago and returned it to Amazon.

So I'm not too familiar.

But what is the advantage of getting a Roku vs a Sony BD player that can stream (5.1 DD+ Netflix, 5.1 DD Amazon) and play BD?
For me the advantage was for the Time Warner Cable app, I can have live streaming cable tv over the web without having to have another jack installed, and pay a monthly fee for a set top box. Plus there are plenty of other channels and apps that aren't available on a Sony BD player. I have a media PC connected to my two other home theater systems, but the Roku is hooked up in a different room that doesn't have all that.

The advantage of a Roku is the massive number of channels (hundreds, plus all of the unofficial channels) that they offer. Most beyond the major movie and music channels are niche channels but if you have any interest in those niches it's a pretty cool toy. I primarily use mine for Netflix, Amazon, and older HBO shows (must have HBO from cable to access HBO-Go) that are not available free on demand from my cable provider, plus techie TV channels, but there are hundreds of funky channels to explore and I have 96 channels currently loaded on mine. Want to learn Thai cooking? There's a channel for that :D. But if you're going to install zillions of channels I recommend adding a 2GB MicroSD card so that it can cache the graphics instead of downloading them each time because it really does help keep it snappy.

I think someone posted that the update would have been last week. I keep going to update software everyday and nothing, frustrating. :( Hopefully it will happen before May.
The rumors on the Roku forum are late May. BTW it automatically checks for updates every day.

I almost don't care anymore... If it doesn't actually make this one any faster, I will just get a 3.

It's not too bad, just a bit slow. Amazon Prime Is a bit faster. I do like the scroll It is a bit faster. I bet the 3 is a speed demon.

I've been really happy with mine. I just wish there was a way to send http commands to it so I didn't have to use the roku remote.
