I've decided to updrade my DAC and also enjoy listening to an extensive CD collection and need a new CD player.....I feel either of these units give me the best of both worlds...a digital hub and a CD player.

However the Cambridge is $650 (US) less than the Musical Fidelity....what are your thoughts on these units? What am I getting for the extra $?---better build quality, better reputation, better sound? Features look similar.

Appreciate any feedback or additional options.

The Marantz sa8004 is an SACD player with digital inputs and runs a lot less than either of the 2 units you are looking at.

Hey there!

I have a 851C with a iD100 dock and running through a Parasound preamp and Parasound amp and I am very happy with the quality of the sound and build. The flexibility for the system and control works well. The 851C does a very nice job with jitter and over-sampleing and they have done a very nice job with the Nyquist filters that don't smear the VHF in the audio band. You can do a lot worse for a lot more money then the 851C. With the 851C you almost don't need a preamp unless you need more flexibility then just switching and volume. Overall nice unit!

Welcome:)

Just curious, what happened to your existing CD player?
