I looked around for a bit and then based on a top ten review I looked at the Polk 265-LS over many others including the RT version of same speakers... Was told the LS are noticeably more expensive and sound much better with a decent AVR. LS are 33kHz highs and RT are 28kHz....

So some on here said KEF or revel over Polk. Why? I don't know much about the tests to prove they're better, so anyone with experience? What about someone that has owned the Polk LS in-wall or in-ceiling speakers... The set I want would be $1,400 for 5 speakers, two of the 265-ls fronts, the 255-ls center and 2 in-ceiling 80FX/LS all vanishing grilles, paintable.

Am I out of my mind to get the Onkyo 1010 and polk LS series? I want to buy the AVR I can use down the road with bigger and better along with 2nd zone/hdmi outs.. Or get Denon 3313?

So in the review on top ten reviews for 2013, they beat out some decent companies. So with the fact I can get the LS 5 speakers for just $1,400 and the nice look, I really need some feedback on why not.? I would like to get the Denon 3313 or Onkyo 1010 AVR. Was told to spend more on speakers and less on AVR.

SO here are rankings as per top ten 2013 in wall speakers

#1 Polk Audio 265-LS overall (9.65)
#2 Martin Logan Passage (9.35)
#3 Premier Acoustics PA-626 (9.25)
#4 Klipsch KL-6504-THX (9.18)
#5 Yamaha NS-IW660 (8.93)
#6 Polk Audio 65-LS (discontinued) (8.83)
#7 PSB CW28 (8.65)
#8 Klipsch KL-6502-THX (8.30)
#9 Yamaha NS-IW470 (7.80)
#10 PSB CW26 (7.78)

Out of 10 the polk was ranked 9.65. stats below, so please rebut...

101 views of this and no one wants or can answer or help? please anyone that is looking at this, let me know if you think these speakers sound and look good or do you think it's just talk and polk isn't a high end in-wall speaker here? I'm getting discrete AV to offer the Onkyo 1010 AVR for only $1,100, $600 off amazon pricing. Is it better than the Denon 2313 or 3313 or not? It's twice the weight, more power and THX certified. Thoughts, anyone?

You know, I'm interested in in-wall speakers but don't know much about them because I won't need them until I retire in my "last" house. But, if I were looking now, I'd start with RBH & also here:

As far as the Denon vs Onkyo - get the one with the features that you need as both are fairly good (I'm partial to Denon but that's just me.).

I think I might go with the Yamaha rx-a2020 since it's a9 channel avr and I could go with a Pioneer elite for that same price range getting one for around $1100. but the denon or onkyo's I'd have to hit $2000 to get a 9.2 receiver. I think since i'm going to do before and after pictures and video footage of making of the room, I would like to have 7 speakers in the room. I want to do either surrounds and backs or front highs and backs... can't decide on that. But in either case, I'd also like to have a zone 2.

I was talking to some one online and I have the def tech promonitor 800's 6 of them and a procenter 1000, they thought I should just use those vs buy in wall speakers. Any thoughts?

I just really want to have very deep and incredible surround sound. I want it to make my wife who cares nothing for good audio, to love it.

Yamaha makes a great AVR - if the RX-A2020 meets the feature set you need, I think it would serve fine. Initially, you asked about in-wall but it sounds like you're now looking at on-wall (Def Tech Promonitor 800 speakers). This is an entirely different question as there are lots of great offerings out there. Here are a few questions to fine tune suggestions:

1) room size
2) primary use (music / home theater or a percentage of each - sounds like you're leaning towards HT)
3) Budget

Also, the pro reviews section of audioholics.com has a great deal of reviews on bookshelf speakers to get you started:

You're thread has got me reconsidering in-wall and instead thinking about ways to "hide" on-wall (acoustically transparent panels, false walls, acoustically transparent display screens).

Thanks for the info.. I'm actually going to do inwall speakers for my main room. The def tech will be for a bedroom or to sell. I diidnt realize how good the def techs were but I'm getting 5-7 in wall speakers and two subs to put in a new wall we are building. Its going to be awesome. I will keep updates posted. The Yamaha a2020 will likely be the winner on avr side. I cant think of a better $1200 avr...
