I have 4 bookshelf (white) def tech promonitor 800's, 2 x 800's (black) and procenter 1000 center all in white and a little beat up. I got them from a client who needed some cash and they are great. I'm looking to sell them, but their not selling. Should I just keep them as they seem like really good speakers to only get $50-$75 per speaker when the set retails for $800 and I have 4 stands and 2 wall mounts along with the pro sub 800.... Seems like I have a nice 7.1 set up huh? I bought them to sell them, but it's looking like maybe I should save them for later or for someone that would buy them from me later... Your thoughts?

I think those Def Tech will sound just fine compared to the Polk in-walls.

So that is funny because I had a thought to start with an AVR for this and wire it up and see how I like it. I could do fronts, surround and backs or fronts, front highs, and backs.... what is more impressive for sound?

I may move toward this idea. One thing I'm thinking about with regards to the AVR, is to get 9 channels. Does that come in to play in this discussion? I am looking at the Denon 3313 and its only 7.2 and the onkyo 1010 is also 7.2.... but the onkyo 3010 is the 9.2.... and i'd have to get the denon 4250.... So I looked at the Yamaha as they seem to get a lot of praise from people with less power, but the Yamaha RX-A2020 is a 9.2 I think I can get the price for around the $1000-1300 I'm looking for with a pretty nice looking AVR yeah?

Polk's audio quality has degraded miserably over the past 20 years. It seems that their new target is the same as the $30 Ipod Dock crowd. Just thought I'd inject my $0.02 after listening to some of their TSI line larger bookshelves.

Usually insignificant.

$2300 Onkyo 3010: 189WPC x 2Ch into 8 ohms @ 1% THD, 147WPC x 5Ch, 127WPC x 7Ch.
$2500 Pioneer SC-68 (also 9Ch): 191WPC x 2Ch, 138WPC x 5Ch, 113WPC x 7Ch.
$1100 Denon 3312: 143.3 WPC x 2Ch, 103.0 WPC x 5Ch, 96.8 WPC x 7Ch.

Doubling the amplifier wattage results in ONLY a 3dB increase in volume ("slightly louder"). Switching from a 50 watt amplifier to a 100 watt amplifier or from a 100 watt amplifier to a 200 watt will only increase the volume by 3 dB as long as you use the same speakers.

As you can see, 127WPC vs 113 WPC vs 96WPC is really insignificant.

I am gettint that understanding as well as the distortion info. My main thing then is the ability for 9 channels vs 7. If they all come out close on features and quality i think a good decidinf factor is having 9 channels to do up to 7.1 and a zone 2. There are some ebayers listing new yamaha 2020 for $1100... I may end up keeping tbd def techs for a while or look into listening to the kef revel or paradigm.. Im getimg the point everyome hates the polk but no one has even listened go the inwalls so i am basonf it om the total disquest with their current quality of fromts.

Thanks for help.. Do u like the yamaha 2020 then?

Accu ... if you had the prosub 800 and the current setup was a Yamaha 2020 with in walls and a velodyne 12 inch sub, would it help to use as a second sub under the other inwall front? I'm not getting much in resale interest in the entire procinema 800 set I have.. maybe ill just use it for my bedroom and make it sound cool. If I did that what avr would you use to power the procinema 800 7.1 in a bedroom?
