I've tried connecting the S3 via the usb cable, to no avail. Is there a way to get this done?

Sure, there are a bunch of ways, but USB is not one of them. People often get confused and think because there is a USB connection that things should just work. It's just not the case. USB requires very specific drivers on every device for them to work. Those drivers typically work with a computer (PC/Mac), but your TV is just a TV. It's not a computer. It won't play directly with a USB printer, or a USB modem, or a USB camera, or a USB.... - The list is long of what will not work. Your TV MAY have USB drivers for some very specific equipment like thumb drives or hard drives, maybe even the iPhone, but not for Android products (yet). So, you need to use a connection that is true for both the connector type and the information being sent down that wire. That means using HDMI or analog audio. The easiest way was described above. For the Samsung S3, there is a HDMI connector available which can give you HD video from you phone (tablet) to the TV. Or use your 3.5mm headphone jack on top of the phone and take audio straight from the phone into the TV. Not sure what type of audio system you have which has the connection you want to use, so it will either be dual RCAs (red/white) or HDMI. You can get a headphone type connector (3.5mm stereo) to dual RCAs at your local radio shack, or right here: For only $3.03 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 6ft Designed for Mobile 3.5mm Stereo Male to RCA Stereo Male (Gold Plated) - Black

In addition to the above wired connections, you might be able to stream music from the Galaxy S3 to your home theater. If you're unsure how to check that out, just let us know which home theater system you have, and we can look.

There are two ways to play music stored on your Samsung Galaxy S3 via your home stereo system. It depends on your AV receiver or your preamp. The easiest way is using your 3.5mm output (earphone jack). For most today receivers that have airplay function, all you need is to download your receiver's apps. Your Samsung S3 then becomes a remote control of your audio system. The USB input doesn't work because it is only designed for ipod, iphone, or ipad. Please read your receiver's owner manual for more information.

One annoying thing is that this would easily work on older phones. Most older phones will connect over usb as a "mass store device" and the receiver would view it like a memory stick, but most now only connect as "media devices" that require specific drivers.

I have the Samsung HT-E550 digital home entertainment system. Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

How can playing music over USB be noisy? That is going to be a function of the device you're plugging into, not the connection.
I've tried two brands of docks with USB in and 3.5mm out including Samsung's own and it was nasty in both cases but maybe it's the docks themselves. I finally settled on BT for what I use it for which is audiobooks and podcasts.

Page 10 of the manual doesn't list support for phones, and the product price point at under $200 is well below the level of a unit which would offer any sort of advanced features. The back of your HTiB kit has a pair of auxiliary input jacks, page 12 of your manual, item #4. Just get the headphone breakout cable and plug it into the aux. input jack and be done with it. Just a few bucks and you are done. http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201201/20120119162224331/HT-E550-ZA-ENG-0118.pdf Wow, reading further... Page 19 of the manual shows a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo input jack right on the front of the HTiB. Just get a 1/8" to 1/8" stereo jack and plug it into your phone and HTiB and you are setup that way and can remove the cable at any point. Very reliable and ensures functionality.
