Crown XLS AMP Question

I am looking to get an amp to power my next sub project which will be a pair of 18" sealed subs. Likely the Stereo Inegrity 18.

My local craigslist has the following amps available.

XLS 402 - $200
XLS 602 - $300
XLS 2500 - $450

I would like at least 500 watts per sub minimum. Is there any reason I should lean against going with a 2 ohm setup and just get a 402 and save some money.

Thanks

Jeff

The 402 is a great amp, but that series has been discontinued. I got a used xls1500 from guitar center for $250. It is 775 per channel at 2 ohms and works perfectly. The more power you can get the better in most cases, so I'd look at guitar center's web site for used stuff as well as craig's list. The new amps are also class d which takes them from ~50lbs each to under 10. I love mine.

I ordered my Crown XLS-1500 Yesterday, I liked the RCA & Balanced inputs, most people say the Fan does not come on often & is quiter than some other amps. it was 348 from Amazon free ship. using it for my mains Alon l's with Emotiva xda-2 pre

It will be sealed.
Then I would go with 2500, sealed subs need more power than vented subs. Plus you also should be planning on spending some money for EQ since sealed definitely need it. My advice would be to get a miniDSP and a UMIK and use them with REW.

If I use a miniDSP could I not just go with the 602.....they are very similar in power output I believe and the miniDSP will do all my crossover, filtering and EQ??

Unless the 602 is a steal of a deal (pun) I'd go with the newer series just because of fan noise, heat, and weight of the 602. I'm in no way saying the 602 isn't a good amp, just giving my opinion. Plus the 602 isn't rated for 2 ohm operation. The newer drive core series is. I run mine at 2 ohms just to get 775w to each of my subs. They have no problem playing loud and low. I do need a miniDSP and the mic to get the response flatter.

I agree, go with the newer series. They run quieter, cooler, and are stable down to low impedances.

okay sounds good. I will see if I can pick up that used 2500 for a little less. It has been on CL for awhile now,

You can get the xls 2500 new for cheaper on eBay. Been looking myself.
