In case the AVR wouldn't recognize larger then 1TB.
Format the 2TB in NTFS, connect it to your PC, copy your music files to it. Run a DLNA server such as Wild Media Server, Mezzmo etc and you're done. If the AVR won't stream FLAC via DLNA use wav or have the dlna server transcode on the fly.

Does anyone have any experience with the Slingbox, is this something that would work well for music? It seems to me to be geared more toward video.

I've tried several media servers today, as per brabus, and for the first time I've seen daylight. I tried Serviio, Mezzmo and Wild Media. While they all nistalled and show on my AVR's media server Wild Media is the only one that I was actually able to get music into and play through my AVR. It isn't perfect but if I go that route I can figure out how to configure it.

I somewhat understand what your telling me to do. I do not know what the DLNA feature is but I guess if I can manage a log into my computer I would be able to access the files from there. However, if I could get around having to also use my computer that would be much better. This is why I was trying with the external hardrive and dock.

It is included in Windows 7 so you are already all set to go in you wish to stream audio/video from your PC but you do have to get in the windows 7 control panel (see below) to set it up.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Media streaming options

If my only option is to use my PC then I will figure that out and go that route for the time being. Do I need to reformat my drives to FAT32 for use from the PC to AVR?
You do have another option, that is, USB thumb drive/or flash drive as you called it. You can get a 64GB one for under $40. As for USB hardrive, I know NTFS won't work, and you have already tried FAT32 2TB, but we are not sure if smaller ones such as those under 1GB would work. I think the chance for a smaller FAT32 USB drive to work is about 50/50. :D

Wild Media Server is fantastic. I've used it to play file formats through my dlna bluray player that it wouldn't play natively. Great quality and can be as simple or as complex as u want to get. The developer updates it frequently and support is good. I spent quite a while tryin numerous dlna servers, and being an IT guy, it was the only one that fit all my needs.

Good luck! :)

Using my PC directly would be perfect however, while it does show on my avr, I cannot access it. I will continue working with the control panel to figure out the problem but until then I have to settle for outside software.

Wile the use of a thumb drive would definitely will work, unfortunately, I have thousands of CD's I'm trying to do away with. I have more then 1tb of music on my PC now and then I still have the CD's which aren't duplicated on the PC. I need a ton of space. Lol

Spoke to soon. Just double checked my setting on the PC. Apparently I had not gone into Media streaming options. I have now set that and am currently listening to music on my AVR from my PC, graphics and all. Thanks so much! This part of my journey is almost over. I will have to centralize the music on my PC a bit better and begin the ripping of ALL my CD's. The best part of this is that both my AVR's should be picking up my PC. I'll check my other later today.

Now I will continue to look for a way to play music directly from an external hardrive to my AVR's. If I don't get anything to work the way I want at least I have this and most importantly I do have random play. LOL
