Mid-priced AVR for 4 ohm speakers

What model speakers are they? To say they are 4 ohm speakers is simply not enough information to make any solid recommendations on. The most important factors are the phase angle where the minimum impedance occurs and what frequency the maximum phase angle occurs. Without this information, buying an external amp may be simply over kill and a waste of money.

Take for example my speakers which are nominally rated for 6 ohms but live around teh 4 ohm mark in the upper bass lower midrange. My receiver has no problem driving them to 90 db seated 12' away without strain or fuss.

Here are their impedance/phase angle curves.

The phase angle stays below 45 degrees in the low bass region which is where the receiver would have the most problem driving them. Adding a sub and crossing over at 80 Hz lessens teh demand on the receiver considerably.

I agree with this post. The price point for the Onkyo is right on target .. Its not excessively priced and good for a home theatre system . My boyfriend has this , and we really enjoy watching movies with it .

Unless they are unique, expensive speakers, most advice here would cost more than new speakers.... Any company producing speakers requiring special Amplification Deserves to have very few customers.... Put them out at the curb For trash pick up.... Companies like this need to be taught a lesson. Responses here useless in absence of ID on speakers and cost of same

Thanks for the links. It just reiterates what I'm getting at that knowing the minimum impedance is as useful as not knowing it all. :D Well almost not knowing it at all.

That is the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time.

A few posts earlier I stated that I'm put an AVR on hold an will be using a two channel system for music and movies. The speakers are SEAS Froy3 and my old AVR was able to drive them, just not as good as an amp with high current current and 4 ohm capabilities. I really don't want to add a sub because it disturbs my adjacent town home neighbors.
My DIY SEAS w/ specs too.

I saw the specs but it did not contain phase information. Nice looking speakers btw. :)
