Im really new to all this. here is my problem.
I have a jvc model lt46am73,dish network hd receiver model 222k, Samsung ht e3500 and an x box with hdmi

only have one input/output for optical audio on Samsung so how do i get surround sound from xbox only one input/output also on dish receiver

First, I'd like to strongly recommend returning this and getting some form of audio solution that has HDMI inputs. Continuing, check to see if your TV has an optical out. If it does you can run all of your components into the TV and then use the optical connection from the TV to the HTIB. The problem with this is that most TV's will not put surround sound out onto the optical connection, only stereo. If this is the case you'll have bought all these speakers and placed them around for very little reason at all.

After looking at the connections on your equipment, the best option that comes to my mind is a Toslink (optical audio) switch. There are a number of them available, such as this one from Monoprice.com for about $6 before shipping.

Unfortunately, no - it's a coax connection, and the Samsung doesn't have an input for it.
Yuck, all of this equipment is like an island of misfit toys in terms of connectivity. I agree the optical switch is a good idea.
