Receivers with built-in sub woofer amp?

Recently purchased an in wall speaker package (Acoustic Audio HD518) which includes an in wall sub woofer, which is not powered. Can anyone recommend a couple 5.1 HT receivers that has the ability to power this sub woofer for under $300. If not, what equipment do I need to power this sub woofer? An external amplifier? I could use some recommendations on that too?

You will need an external amp for our subwoofer. Dayton Audio APA150 150W Power Amplifier 300-812 is a good choice on a budget but it could be a little shy on power depending upon your setup.

You'd need an external amp. What you are asking for is not something I've seen.

Well some HTIBs actually have an amp for the sub in the receiver. I remember seeing one a few years ago in a thread, but it's rare for sure.

Agreed. Does not exist outside of an "all-in-one" system, meaning you typically won't be able to purchase it separately.

The only thing you can do is buy an external amp as mentioned above and use the sub pre-out on receiver. But any way you look at it you will have two pieces of gear to accomplish the job. It's very very rare to see what your looking for. If you do it's going to be real low quality and not capable of much power.

is it an option to use an integrated amp in lieu of a HT receiver? i think the only difference would be that i won't have a tuner, which i don't really care about, correct?

Yes, you can use one channel of an integrated amp although subs generally respond better to more power than regular speakers.

Do you have an intergated lying around? If so, give it a try. It it sounds weak or strained, simply purchase a power amplifer of 100 watts or greater to replace it.

Do you mean to power a sub or for the whole system? The difference would be basically all integrated amps are stereo only, analog only (no processing or digital inputs), and at least all the ones I've owned and see don't have a sub pre-out either (and no bass management).
