I'm looking to build a system, $2-2.5K, and the advise here has helped a lot. HTM-200SE R/L & center and probably a STF-2 sub. 2 bookshelf speakers. I'll run 5 speakers for a bit then add the last two sometime in the future.

I have a lot of music on large capacity thumb drives for transportability, and I have been comparing the Denon AVR-1912 to the 1712. The 1712 seems to more than meet my needs at a great price but lacks a USB port. Anyone have any ideas how I can get my music out of a thumb drive into the 1712 cheaply/easily?

The only probable (not really sure) way I can see is via Denon's proprietary ipod dock but it will still involve some kind of adapters if you still want to use an USB device because iPod/iPad/iPhone don't have USB capability. So even if you can do it it will be convoluted and in the end costs you more.

Unless you really value Audyssey XT, the 1912 is the way to go if USB is a must. The 1912 also comes with dlna certified network capability as well as AirPlay so you can stream music from your desktop, laptop etc., plus you can use Apps on your iPod, tablets etc., to control it.

+1 with Peng.

Not only does having the USB port on the 1912 solve your issue, but I think you would be seriously disappointed later on that you lacked the network capability. Maybe you're not big into Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster, etc. but someday something you do want to use may come by and you won't be able to take advantage of it. Also, Airplay and the Denon remote control app is really nice.
