Audyssey Labs just released an app for IOS devices that includes preset equalization curves for a huge list of headphone models. Great idea.

I've used Audyssey in HT cal for years. Great idea to bring to headphones too, and you don't have any cal work to do yourself this time. How can you miss for a buck?

If you read the review, mention is made at the very end of the Songza app, which includes the Audyssey headphone EQ, and is available on the Android platform. What's not clear is if the Audyssey EQ is on that platform too. Care to check and let us know?

From the review section where they interview Audyssey boss Chris Kyriakakis,

Jim: Every EQ system needs a target curve, a goal to shoot at. How did you pick the target curve in amp?
Chris: That’s a bit of a secret, but it involved measuring inside ears of people and mannequins in calibrated studios
I wish there was more detail on what exactly the target curve is. I would not want to become used to Audyssey's flavor of coloration to suddenly find that flat FR products no longer sound good.

I just downloaded and I'm listening as I write this.

It's a great app. Speedy, nicely done UI. Essentially the same as the stock music app. It really does improve SQ dramatically. However, turning off the EQ in app definitely makes it sound worse than the stock app. I would hope they wouldn't do that intentionally, but you never know.

No audyssey < stock player < audyssey.

I didn't find turning off the EQ made it worse than the ipod app, it was just that the EQ made it sound so much better, turning it off was a bit of an agony.

I understand your concern, and I too wish there was more detail. However, these guys do their research at the Immersive Audio Lab at USC, so they can collect a LOT of data on a LOT of test subjects. I would guess they did their homework on something so critical as the target curve.

There are no flat FR products when it comes to headphones. The need for a target curve is covered here:
