It was my mom's 65th birthday. She didn't want any party or celebration to acknowledge hitting such a milestone. So, naturally I ignored her request.
Mostly, I just wanted to see what 65 lit candles on a cake would look like! Let's be honest, wouldn't you? Especially if it isn't YOUR birthday? So I had them watch the kids on Sunday, two days after her birthday. Then had them bring the kids over and they would stay for dinner. I had my brother bring his brood over as well. So we had lots of screaming and screeching and sore ears.
After dinner, I first pulled out the fire extinguisher and set it on the table. Hell, I didn't know what would happen with all that flame! Better to be safe than burn my house down or rather better than to risk damage to the 65" plasma. Let's be honest, the house can be rebuilt better than it is now, but going without a big plasma during winter...uh uh!
Moving on...It takes awhile to place 65 candles in a cake. I hadn't considered that part. Then comes the big question of how do you light all 65 candles without burning yourself and getting it done before the first candles completely burn out. So I tried a plumber's propane torch. You know, that works AWESOME! With a long flame, I could light like 15 candles at once!
I highly recommend you try this if you celebrate such a milestone with a relative or friend. Candles + propane torch = fun!
On the other side, 65 candles put a lot of heat. Not to mention all the smoke once the candles get blown out. Yikes! We opened up the doors and windows before the smoke detectors went off. Didn't think of that.
So long story summary - next birthday, screw using a puny match or lighter, go for propane!
