Help me decide on speakers! JAMO vs Focal

Hello. I am currently shopping around for some used speakers. I have found 2 very good deals and I'm wondering which ones are the best speakers for the price. I currently only have a Sony Receiver, so I don't have any high end components or amps. I do plan on upgrading the amp in the future but do not want to break the bank.

Here are the deals I am considering:
Jamo Concert 11 - $1000
Focal 726v - $700

Which of these 2 would be the better sounding speaker and better overall deal?

Jamo without question. Better build quality, better performance, better drivers, etc. Not even close.

Do look at the Soundfield audio Monitor 1.
The speaker costs $1300, but it's better than both of your options, IMO. It's better than any other $1300 speaker I have seen! :D

It does dip into 4ohm. Could be a problem for your Sony.

If that entire speaker is powered with a BASH plate amp, then it will sound terrible.

You know for sure those are better than either of the ones I'm looking at? You must have heard the Jamo and the Focal... Which of those do you like better if you don't mind me asking...

Out of curiosity, why do you say that?
Digital amplifiers, especially like the BASH one, have extremely high distortion. They sound fine for bass, but would be downright hideous for midrange and treble.

This speaker looks like a fairly interesting design. A powered 8" in a sealed cabinet and a passive coaxial driver (KEF) in its own enclosure.

I haven't listened to either.

Focal has power response issues, IMO.

I don't know much about the Jamo. It appears to use Seas drivers and a waveguide, which is a definite plus, but I'm not sure what frequency they cross at...

The M1 measures very well, uses a very good driver, and is designed by someone who is very knowledgeable. It is a controlled directivity design using a good KEF driver and a sweet bass driver.

How do you plan to judge sound quality - do you plan to
audition the speakers? >>> No speaker is really perfect,
I would audition the speakers, and see if one of them is
right for you - regardless of what is recommended.

I don't have a chance to demo the Focal's. Jamo's I will demo. I've demo'd other ones, out of my price range. I know what I want in the speakers. But i'd like the oppinion of people who have tried both here.

I've never heard Jamo. But my Focal 826V sound excellent.

So I'll have to pick the Focal.

The Focal will also have better resale, no doubt helped by the fact that they are made in France and their flagship speakers cost $190K/pr.

Oh brother...

Monkish and I have had our disagreements lately, but his recommendation is a very good one. The SoundField Audio Monitor 1 has been getting rave reviews; nothing but praise from what I've seen. It is very well designed and measures better than any $1300 speaker I've ever seen. It may still be out on "tour," which means you can audition it in your own home. Definitely give it some consideration.

Man you have NO freaking proof. Have you heard the speaker, I take it like everything else to speak about NO you haven't. So here's the thing, you build a speaker that sounds and measures better than anything mentioned on this forum and maybe you will get some credibility and respect. Do something instead of talking

I think the Ridikas just likes to be controversial. Maybe it's his way of being humorous. :D I wouldn't take everything he says too seriously. :D

I would just respond to some of his posts by saying:

R ---------------- I ----------------- G ------------------- H ----------------- T. :D

He feeds off of it, man! :p

I can at least comprehend (not necessarily agree..) if he were to say: "That speaker would sound pretty lackluster running off one 300 watt BASH amp. Not a whole lot of watts for an 86db/2.83V 6ohm speaker with a built-in subwoofer. Intermodulation distortion could be a problem." (I'm not making that claim myself, just to be clear.)

Instead he says "If that entire speaker is powered with a BASH plate amp, then it will sound terrible."

He gives no explanation! Why should I guess? It's just so trolly!

he did, a few posts up ... it's just that all his posts need to be approved now

he's "under probation" for 2 days. now i wish i had just straight out banned him because i don't want to be reviewing his posts.

his current un-approved post sounds trolly as well.
