Onkyo Receiver, Sony Tv, Direct Dvr, No Sound!

I just got an onkyo ht-rc430 & I have a Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR9 with directv hd dvr. I've got it connected, have a picture but I don't have sound from the tv. I'm using HDMI connections. Any ideas?

How do you have it all set up?

Do you have picture but no sound from the Sony and the DVR or just one?

Did you pick up the additional speakers or just the two in the ceiling still?

Yes. Generally a receiver will not output audio to a TV and the receiver speakers at the same time. To hear sound from the TV, HDMI audio has to be set to on. To hear sound from the receiver speakers it has to be set to off.

I guess that would depend on the tv.. I can play the audio from the speakers and tv at the same time on my Vizio.

Another guess would be to make sure audio out from the dvr isn't set to optical or something like that. It should auto detect, but sometimes it doesn't do it correctly

Actually it depends on the receiver, not the TV.

Oh, of course.. Tv can't output audio if receiver doesn't allow it right? My mistake
