Right now I went with the E5bi due to it being the same tweeter and mid. The 4" bookshelf looked very tempting as it's gotten plenty of praise, but I didn't want to much a different sound.

I think the EMP's should be very solid for the price. They're +/- 2db for all the measurement whores, beautiful looking for all the aesthetic people, great price for the budget minded, etc etc. Every reviewer THAT HAS ACTUALLY HEARD THEM has liked them. The only reviewer I could find that has heard both the 814v and e55ti is the one I posted above. Your perception will likely be different than his as will mine, but still...with a 30-day trial period with nothing to lose..why not!

The RBH Signature SX 6300's are like $3,300+/pr and these look to share the same cabinet. Drivers are obviously different, but isn't there a decent amount of difference every time someone compares based on MSRP between 2 lines? EMP has stated there is definitely trickle down tech from RBH in the e55ti's. Same x-over pts for a start so maybe they're shooting for the same reproduction with different drivers. Who knows. Again, only the users ears will know which is better and then it's based on cost.
I should've been clearer - I meant between the E5bi and the E55Wi, but you answered my question anyway.

Yes, there is no substitute for me hearing them in my own setup, but since that can't happen until Jan, I'm hoping to get by on some vicarious listening.:D

I wasn't aware of any similarities with the RBH Signature SX 6300 - thanks for pointing that out. I do have the EMP E-41B (which, by most accounts, is identical to its RBH counterpart). The E-41Bs are stupendously good speakers for the money (and much more). I haven't heard any from the Impression series, but I have high hopes.

Nom. impedance - 8 ohms
Minimum impedance (@25°C) - 4.3 ohms @ 146Hz

Short of an impedance plot, I like the way Focal specs impedance:
I respect them for printing it.:)

Very nice.

What's next? Focal 705V surrounds for $500?

Now you can tell your friends and relatives that you have high-end speakers made in France - descendant of the $190,000 Focal Grande Utopia III. ;) :D

If I were rich, I would get a pair of Focal Utopia III speakers (any of them) plus dual Focal Utopia III subs, which are like $15,000 each - and the subs are also unpowered. I just love unpowered subs. :D

Kind of weird how all their other subs are powered, but their $15K flagship sub is unpowered. :D

Ya never know what could happen...maybe you'd end up like this guy that prefers the 814v over the Utopia's

It's possible that with the wrong setup the Utopias would not sound as good as the Chorus- for example, if they used RC/EQ/DSP on the Utopia and bypassed the RC/EQ/DSP on the Chorus.

There's no way the Utopia could sound worse if the setup were identical.

But I strongly believe in trickle down effect. The Chorus may not be the Utopia or Electra, but they will have the same brand signature.

That is a crazy price. Almost 60% off on brand new Focal 814V made-in-France speakers is just insane.

Too bad they did not have the 826V at 60% off.
Where did you find info that they are made in France? Just curious, since I didn't see anything to that effect on the link that was posted.

Because it says "Made in France" on the back of my Focal Chorus speakers. :D

A Focal rep told me all of the Focal speakers are made in the same factory in France.

how about Saint-Etienne, France and the Focal JM Lab company has speaker cabinet production facilities at Bourbon-Lancy and Pau, France. Nothing wrong with France for speakers, my old JMR Offrande Supreme speakers were made in Barbezieux - France

99.9% agree. Everyone's ears and preferences are different (to a small extent), but I'm thinking that guy factored in price vs. performance ratio in his review also. Could explain that "let down" on the Utopia's purely based on price.

RBH ...trickle down to...EMP :D Lets hope! EMP told me directly there was quite a bit of trickle down to the EMP lines. E55ti even shares the same cabinet as the Signature SX's. You'll have to come by and give them a listen sometime when I get them all set up. Maybe bring your Salon2's over to compare.....totally joking lol.
this is here for no reason

I'll bring my Infinity P362 over to compare since they trickled down from the Salon2. :D

It's like Honda vs Acura, Toyota vs Lexus. :D

Lol damn. I tried. :D

I've heard the P363 about 3 or 4 times and every time I felt they were overly bright and due to that I felt the upper midrange was a bit...weird. That's just to me though. A little too much edge on those upper freq. I've also heard the Focal polyglass mids and that tweeter several times (granted thats in a car and you have a TON of reflections most of the time), they also struck me as a little bright. Pretty much ruled out the Focal audition b/c home and car are different ballgames.
