'Caveat Emptor' and all, but can you really blame only the buyer? I for one wouldn't trust making a purchase on Audiogon, allowing this fraud to continue.

I'd also suspect that the paypal account of that vendor would provide a sufficient trail of funds, the total of which would likely amount to a felony conviction for the seller, and perhaps Audiogon. There are forum posts going back years about these products.
