So I'm pretty sure my plasma TV has begun to emit a high frequency noise. This has never happened before and seems to happen after it's been on for awhile. Could spell the end of the plasma or is it just going to make this noise and drive me batty?

I hear a high frequency noise when my plasma is showing a bright screen. I always have. Do you notice it during certain scenes or all of the time?

From what I've read, it's related to the power supply.

I'm not sure. It just started about an hour ago, or at least I only noticed it about an hour ago and I've had it for probably 3+ years. I have to pay closer attention, but I feel 85% confident that it has never made this noise before.

So last night I was fiddling with a few settings. At one point I had the receiver off so there was no picture on the screen, it was completely black, and the noise came back. Very intermittent because it didn't make the noise the rest of the night. I'll have to see how it goes today.

I sure hope it isn't dying, although I have the sneaking suspicion that it is. When I play a blu-ray movie I'm starting to get a little fuzzyiness during certain scenes in movies and once in awhile on TV so I definitely think something is amiss.

I really hoped the TV would last a bit longer. The fuzziness I can live with until I recoup some money, but the the noise is definitely not something I can stand.

Here's hoping. :(

I hope it's not going out unless you are wanting to upgrade anyway.

Man, you just never know with electronics, my outdoor plasma is still going strong after 4 years and I only expected it to last a year out there.

Every plasma I have owned or listened closely to the power supply has emitted some amount of noise. My LG is particularly loud. Adam is correct that the brighter they get the more noise seems to occur.

Mine usually take about 5 minutes before it really gets going. Picture is great but I would not want it in the bedroom where I have to listen at low volumes often.

Are you still in warranty?

I have no plans to upgrade and wouldn't have the means to if this thing died for awhile. I'd pretty much have to use my old 26" TV for quite some time before I replaced it with something. I'm not even sure which direction I'd go in because I didn't think I'd have to move to something else for quite some time.

I know the noise you're talking about and mine is mostly silent. This is, as far as I can tell, a completely new noise and the last time it occurred was during a completely black screen. It is pretty intermittent and right now it's not making it at all.

Nope, the TV is about 3 years old so I'm pretty sure the warranty is up.

I mean the TV only has 4250 hours and 20 minutes of use.

I don't hear that on any of my Panasonic plasma's.
