No sound-help!

Hi all, really looking for some help here. The equipment is 2 years old and never been used. I hooked it up 2 yrs ago and couldn't get the sound to come on. So..I gave up since we don't use that room much. Now, for the holidays I'm trying again with no luck.

The Problem: No sound while playing DVD. Tuner/Radio plays fine. DVD Picture good.

The Units:

Reciever-Pioneer VSX-920
DVD Player- Panasonic S53
TV- Plasma Panasonic TH42PZ77U

The hook up: DVD- HDMI out > Reciever- HDMI in/ Reciever-HDMI out > TV -HDMI in

I'd appreciate any suggestions I can try. Thanks.

Two years? You have more patience than I do!

A question - are you trying to get sound from the DVD player to come through the TV speakers or through the speakers connected to the Pioneer?

There are three things to check:
1. That the DVD player is set up to output audio over HDMI (page 20 of the DVD-S53 manual)
2. That the HDMI input on the Pioneer VSX-920 that you are using has been assigned as the input source for audio (page 43 of the 920 manual)
3. That the VSX-920 is set up to either play HDMI audio through it's speakers or through the TV (pages 40-41 of the 920 manual)

That's to get the ball rolling. Please let us know if that does or does not fix it.

Well sir...I can't be sure 'why' but it's playing sound. It was definetly a DVD setting that was the culprit...it may have been the audio 'out' was not selected however I know HDMI was displayed on the screen all along. I clicked a couple of items so who knows? I really appreciate your help...you got me on the right track, for that...thank you.

The upstairs room we have an LCD and Yamaha Reciever etc. so we weren't lacking. But it'll be nice to get the Infinitys and Velodyne rumbleing again.

Actually, Eric Clapton-Crossroads, Yes Live at Montreux 2003 and Pink Floyd-Pulse are on the agenda. I don't care what taste of music you like that Clapton Crossroads DVD is incredible. Amazing, all the guests playing live outdoors on it. BB King, Santana, John Mclaughlin, Vince Gill, Steve Vai, ZZ Top, Dan Tyminski, James Taylor, Joe Walsh and a ton more.
