broken binding post?

Anyone ever broke a binding post on an amp? Is it a "bolt on" procedure or is the soldering involved? It's an Adcom gfa-2535.

There is a soldering element (connecting the post to the power lines). I don't know about attaching to the frame. I suspect that is done with nuts and bolts rather than solder.

This is what you need.

You will need to open the unit up and soldering will be required.

It is $7 from digi-key, but $40 from that ADCOM outfit.

I was kind of afraid of that. The repair is a little above my skill set. I want it done right in case i sell it(which may very well happen bc i'm redoing the whole setup in feb or march). Thats my second amp that needs repair that may not be worth the money. $200 tops for that amp, but atleast i know what's wrong with it and the repair is straight forward. Cant be said for my aragon 2004 mkii. $100 just find out whats wrong with it. Who knows how available the part may be. Worth $400 tops. Doubt i would get that much for it. Im sure im not the only one ever been through this.

Watch some soldering tutorials on YouTube and then practice. Once you have it down fix your amp.

Your original post made me wonder how you broke that binding post.

I've know one guy who broke his amp binding posts repeatedly. When he asked me to bring my soldering iron over to help fix it, I asked him just how he broke it. It seems he followed audiophile dogma and used those thick heavy forked spade connectors, like this:

He tightened the wrong nut

I had a loose binding post. The manufacturer replaced the entire unit since it was under warranty.

Not 100% sure what happened. We were remodeling the living room. I had taken everything out. I thought I put the amp in a safe location, but apparently not. Don't know if something got kicked into it, if something fell on it, or if I did it uninstalling everything. There were no other posts damaged, the one that broke is broke clean. The remaining piece is not bent. I use banana plugs so I don't do any tightening on them.
