I have a Yamaha yht-395 6.1 amp. Already have two athena as-f2 floor standing speakers for my fronts. Just purchased a JBL cinema series 500 speaker set to complete my system. With 6.1 I would only have one back speaker which is not supposed to be directly to the rear @ 180 degrees. Since I now have an extra speaker and this is a mono channel can I hook both these speakers together in series from the back channel output and move them a little to each side.

I don't see why not. It'll be just like the surround channel(s) in a DPL system.

You may have to adjust the gain a bit for that channel, though.

If the 6th channel isn't supposed to be directly in the center of the back row, where is is supposed to be?

Welcome to the forum!

The Yamaha YHT-395 system comes with the HTR-3064 5.1 receiver. You mentioned it being 6.1. Are you sure that there is a speaker output for a surround back channel on your receiver?

Sorry not sure where that number came from. HTR-5740 is my amp.

Is there a problem though with putting two speakers on the same back channel?

I concur with mark W.. if wired in series, there should be no problems with level adjustments made.
