Throwing these up. TV is getting mounted on the wall Saturday morning and the big stand is going away. I really need to sweep the floor.

Not too shabby at all!

Offhand question: is it only my @ss owning in laws that call vacuuming "sweeping", or is that really a thing out in those parts?

Sweeping is done with a broom. Vacuuming with a vacuum. :D

Where are you going to put all the gear? I am considering wall mounting my plasma in the living room but it would take considerable amount of work to relocate all my gear in a closet.

Replacing the big rack with one of the $49 Ikea Lack TV units. Going for this much cleaner look:

I think that will look good just don't mount the display as high as they did in the picture.

I know it's not your room, but any idea how that "clock" works on the upper left corner? It looks a little quirky and cool.

Edit: I should add that I think it's a clock anyway....

Why does wall mounting necessitate moving anything? Why not wall mount and then just leave the stand there?

It doesn't necessitate moving anything but if I do wall mount it, I would like to clean up the entire room by moving the credenza out of there. There is something I like about a wall mounted display, flanked by towers and a center on a stand.

Makes perfect sense. What about a rack like the one in the AH showroom in the corner. A lot more noticeable (and probably expensive) than adding a closet or moving everything to a closet, but easier to do. I know I'm looking at these for the future.

Guy is coming at 9AM tomorrow morning to mount my plasma and I've just discovered that the Ikea Lack TV Unit will only accommodate AV gear that is 6" in height or less. My Denon won't fit.

Apparently the photo I posted above is of a modified unit or something else entirely. I've spent the last two hours scouring the Web for the mod or Ikea hack he might have employed but can't find it.

My plan is a bust. I guess I can just keep what I have and save my money. Blah....

If you're wall mounting the tv why not put the receiver on top beside your center channel? Having spent a lot of time scouring Ikeas website the past couple days I can say they definitely have options that'll fit your receiver as well, unless you had your heart set on the lack.
