Amazon vs. Local economy

Thoughts

1) Johnson and Murphy are incredible, have a pair on now and boy are these puppies comfortable.
2) I will probably order a pair of Olukai's before the end of the day, thanks!
3) People used to enjoy having a relationship (and some obviously do still) with their local shops and owners, wether it was stereo equipment, hardware shop or restaurants. I believe than in general this no longer exists as new means of purchasing goods has become available. While you can get cheaper prices and same day shipping, what has been lost is a connection with those in our communities. I do not frown on online shopping at all, even do it sometimes, but we must remember that if we continue to choose convenience over service, the service will one day no longer be available. Other than that, I realized I have been babbling but still thinking about those shoes, dang.

I called the local store, Trade Home Shoes, I told them I spent some time with Ryan, blah, blah, blah, He was great, blah Can get them on Amazon for $89.00 will you match or get close to that price...He said no. He also said that when customers tell them they are cheaper some where else, they encourage them to jump on the lower price. Company policy at Trade Home is no discounts, no price matching.

So, Amazon it is.

It doesn't hurt to ask and now you have your answer. For me, if it is within a few bucks, I will buy local. If the price difference is significant though, there's no question. I've gotten stuff for literally 50% less on Amazon compared to local at times, and that's not even funny. I got tired of finding something on Amazon for less the next day, to the point where checking Amazon is now part of the process when I am looking for most things.

I've also had a few things that I like stop being carried by major stores, but I can find them on Amazon because they have inventory or suppliers who carry them.

I'd buy where it's cheaper (granted returns are easy)
Almost always buy my shoes at DSW - pretty big store, the local store sucks and drive to decent one almost an hour each way...
The problem is I really find what wide fit shoes do fit me better and wide fit are really hard to find in local stores...

Sometimes if I don't know what I like and local stores don't offer enough selection I order amazon/zappos

btw: I love Ecco brand and have found them one of most comfortable (dress) shoes I ever had. I'm work now and wearing my ECCO Arlanda Tie

Only con is rubber sole is squeaky on smooth surface like granite floors , but then again I find most leather soles make shoe too stiff

I buy a ton o stuff on Amazon, Newegg, and Monoprice. I do like to support local businesses since I work for one! However, when I can get a TV for several hundred dollars less than the store I work for can get it then I jump on it as I did with my current Panasonic. Amazon is sort of local since they are based in Seattle.

When it comes to shoes, almost all of my purchases are from on-line retailers.

There's not many stores that carry EEEE width on the shelf.

dont: walk into the local store, waste the guy's time by finding your right size / or asking ALL about the item and then buying it at amazon

I agree.

And this is what caused the conflict. I received good service and information locally. The 10 minutes he gave me did not make up for a $50.00 price difference though.
