What towers would you consider for a $3000 budget?

OK, I have heard many towers, but I am looking for a set of towers for another room in my house.
Rite now I am thinking the Jade 5's from wharfedale, looks, sound, price, construction they are an impressive package...

What would you audition, I am going to pick a few more speakers to listen to before I pull the trigger....

I find I like dual 6.5" towers, I cross them at 100hz and use a subwoofer, out of most of the sytem I hear this is what sounds good tom me... I listened to the jade 7's that have 8" woofers and are 3 way, and I liked the 5's better, then with a sub I liked them much more...

So what do you guys recommend with my budget?

After the GTG, I'm a big fan of the Salk SongSeries at that price range.

A pair of Paradigm S6's on the used market.

Not sure what else sticks out to me at that price point.

The Philharmonic 3 has impressive specs and good reviews around here. That was on top of my list when I was looking for speakers for my other room.

Other than that, the KEF R series towers do sound great, to me anyway.

Song series, Phil 2 (since you want to cross), and source technology 277SE

The phil 2's would be a better fit for you than the 3's if you chose to go in that direction. They're about 3db more efficient, but don't go as low making them perfect for crossing to a sub.

I think that you have already made up your mind.:)
I agree; why are you asking us about what you've already decided? Do you do this to your wife too? (Mine does it to me, so I'm very familiar with this behavior.)

Thanks guys, BUT NO, I have not completely made up my mind  LOL

my brother has songs, I like the jades better...

I can easily audition the Kefs, so I am going to add them to my list, used is kind of out, since I dont have super good luck with used gear lately...

This is how I do things, I look and look, then ask, and I have really liked the jades since I heard them....

BUT - I will be SO pissed if after I spend $3100 on a pair of speakers I hear something better, that would suck and as careful as I am I know the feeling.. I bought an HK 416 a month before the release of the lwrc :eek:, and now I own both and could do with out the 416 {a $4900 lesson learned:(}

So no dammit, I didnt make up my mind :p

Although my area is a MESS, and I'm super busy rite now {well my employees are, I'm still milking the shoulder surgery  } But I have all trucks out {including mine}, plus 2 rentals and I brought in 6 union temps... So I'm now at the office too busy to run from home
Plus my home phone is out so need to be available to make decisions since no matter how much you pay a foreman they will sit on the side of the road with a flat tire until 5 and then call a cab if you don't answer and call a tow truck, yah that happened, a manager making $70K a year, waited 4 hours until 5pm and then called for a ride and left my truck there, a state trooper friend of mine called me on my wife's cell and asked why my truck was abandoned on the shoulder with a flat tire... We were in St Thomas on vacation, he had it towed to my shop for me and my manager's excuse was "he didnt know what to do, and he figured I wouldnt want to pay overtime so he left at 5pm" I fired him when I got home...

BUT ANYWAY, I will have to do some auditioning when I clear up some time...

Since you already own one B&M brand - Wharfedale (British), you are not allowed to even think Wharfedale. You must diversify. :D

You also own 2 ID speaker brands - Ascend and Tekton.

So now you need a 2nd B&M brand other than British. :D

Your choices are :D

1) France - Focal
2) Denmark - Dynaudio or DALI
3) Italy - Sonus Faber
4) Germany - Vienna Acoustics
5) Finland - Amphion
6) USA - Revel or RBH
7) Canada - PSB or Paradigm

BTW, you keep on saying "Rite" now. You mean "right" now? :D :D :D

The aesthetics probably aren't your taste, but the Phil's really are great. I've had Walter and Alex over to my place to hear them and they both came away with very favorable impressions. Walter admitted to coming in with a negative mindset and ended up really liking them.

I would seriously consider Source Technology as well. They make tremendous speakers and John Sollecito is a great guy. Really knows what he's talking about. You should give him a call, just out of curiosity if nothing else. He's usually the one who answers the phone anyways.

Just to make ADTG happy, they're not ID only. They sell through select B&M stores :D

Well, if he is not interested in diversifying, the Phil2/3 would be pretty great. They do have RAAL ribbon tweeter and BG ribbon midrange, which is probably different than what he now owns. :D

For some reason when Im typing, I have bad habits, like "rite, Im, tryed, arnt, aint, and using there for {they're and their}, If I were writing I would write it correctly, since i am constantly hand writing reports but when I type my brain is too busy typing to do the job correctly I imagine, due to my tiny brain, certainly has nothing to do with lack of education since I have plenty of that..

I also sometimes, type the wrong letter twice, like godd instead of good, or guees instead of guess... Im dumb, I no {see what I did there;) }

oh and I always use {} instead of the coreect ones...

But anyway, I like focal but the ones I like are much more than $3000 {over double}, Ive listened to most of the other companies you listed, and most of the stuff I like they over costs much more than $3K...

The Phil 2's are awesome, and I have listened to them a few times.. But I cant get over how ugly they are... And I never did a side by side with the jades, but it would be close... They cost less which is nice..

Well to each his own. The source are more traditional looking and sound great and there will be a Phil 4 that is traditionally shaped as well.

I do have to admit I did have a negative mindset on them Phil 3's. Cabinets are first class build. On the sound, what can I tell you, I was simply amazed. "Black Knight" sounded awesome. Sound stage is incredible. In 2 channel mode I even had to ask Alex if the Salk center was on, what a presentation. I have to admit I really enjoyed listening to the Phil's at least now I know what everybody is raving about. At that price point I don't think they can beat. There are very few speakers that move me and the Phil 3's are one of them. BTW the 350 watt Cinepro did open them up to their full potential.

I do agree the phil 2s sound very good... Does anyone know the available cost, I was told $3100 which is exactly the price of the jades... I would imagine I am between them 2 and maybe the kefs, I am going tonight to bring my amps and hook them to the kefs for a listen...

I agree with diversity. Once I own a particular brand of towers, I see no reason to get towers from that brand. If anything, matching bookshelves or center from the same brand.
