how does this epik sub compare to hsu and svs models?

I've heard the Ultra more than a few times. Output is definitely comparable in the usable range, but it lacks serious grunt down low. By low, I mean pretty low too, as this thing will get into the teens in room, just not with the same authority as the Ultra. IMO, the Empire has a somewhat cleaner sound being sealed (I've only heard the Ultra in 16 and 20Hz tune, not sealed). Aside from the amp issue I had that they took care of, I have zero complaints about the Empire. I am very pleased with it for music.

Would you choose the Rhythik FV15HP over the SVS PB13Ultra for 50% ht and 50% music?

WHat about compared to a hsu model?
Compared to the VTF-15H, by AH's reckoning, the VTF will have a slight advantage in clean output capability at the 20-25Hz mark, with rough parity at 32Hz and 40Hz. Above that the Epik will pull away. Below 20Hz, the Epik will probably have an advantage (the Hsu isn't measured below 20Hz); it's down less than 10dB at 12.5Hz with respect to 20Hz, whereas the ported Hsu isn't likely to do much below tuning.

I've not heard the VTF-15, but it certainly has an avid fan base.

Certainly nobody is going to scoff at ~110dB+ worth of clean output from 32Hz on up :D. That's going to cover the majority of content in music and film, with only a handful of effects that will really push much below that where the Empire will still be reasonably potent. It's a heck of a lot bang for the buck.

The only caution I would give is with respect to their customer service. It's pretty much a one man shop AFAIK, and while Chad is a good guy, he is only one guy. I know I marked them off my list of contenders after not getting a timely response to inquiries during one upgrade episode.

I'd not expect either to disappoint in terms of raw performance. I'd make my decision on the value proposition:

The FV15HP is more affordable. The SVS offers a better warranty/"bill of rights", a real wood finish standard versus the stock vinyl veneer of the Rythmik, and their customer service is top tier IME.
