You always read about speakers have great mid-range. What exactly does good mid-range sound like. For example....on song this or that, you can hear xyz. What is it that sounds so great?
I dont think I understand the question?
Mid-range is the most important part of music. Mids define the overall accuracy of a speaker. Our human voice is midrange. SO why have incredible clean highs and super low thunder bass if the mid-range is harsh, undefined, or even too forward. The mids should have a straight-flat frequency response to get a smooth sound. If the mids are exaggerated, voices will over power the rest of the sound ranges. this is what people mean when they refer to "presence". ON the other hand if they are "recessed", then the bass and the treble are left behind and will leave you with a hollow sound in the middle....
So when you listen to a sound system, you want {or I rather since music is absorbed with one of our five senses so therefore subject to "taste" for lack of a better word} a nice smooth, flat, balanced midrange that matches the highs and lows {sound level wise not frequency obviously}, I dont want them punching me in the eyes, I want them delivered clear and defined {dont want Dave Mathews sounding drunk
}....
SO anyway to me Mids are the most important fequency range, then Highs { an entire different conversation, you dont want these too bright {some big name store brands love "bright" because on a shelf it will make them impress you with what seems like definition, but you get them home and they are poking your forhead telling you to return them because no matter how much bass you add it is unfixable}, and lows are the last and easiest, I prefer a ported deep oversized sub for home theater, and a sealed FAST and tight sub for music {and 2 of them is even better}...
Anyhow, I Hope this helps...
