I have a JBL Venue Sub12. I am hearing a popping sound when I turn up the volume of the sub. I am new to Audioholics. Thanks for this forum everybody! Anybody have an idea what the problem is?

Sounds like you need to buy a bigger subwoofer if you are pushing it past it's capabilities.

If it sounds like a ball peen hammer dropped on a concrete floor then you are making the unit clip, which is likely for this sort of low power active sub. My JBL B 380 15 inch passive sub requires about 560 watts of bridged power from a Sony TA-N80ES stereo power amp to operate at high volume without clipping. A Sony TA-N55ES operating at about 300 watts in bridged mode was originally used to power my sub but it was not powerful enough to preclude clipping.
