Getting the itch to buy a subwoofer agaian

Instead of buying a cheap subwoofer for my seconday system, I should move my existing PSB sub to it and buy a new one for my main system.

I'm looking at the following contenders shipped Ogdensburg US. I could make a holiday of it and spend a few days in the good ole US site seeing and on my way home swing by and pick it up to bypass the custom fees.

I'm looking at the following in order of preference:

1.) Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus Subwoofer $629.
2.) HSU Research VTF-2 MK4 $612.
3.) Epik Legend $499.
4.) Rumba $549. +shipping

The LFM-1 Plus is more comparable to the previous generation VTF-3, so between it and the VTF-2, I'd go LFM-1.

Is that with tax/shipping? Outlaw currently shows the LFM-1 Plus for $549.

According to Outlaw's URL, that's $629 shipped to Ogdensburg NY. They ship from Boulder Co. No mention of taxes which I find strange..

3db,

I did not know the Outlaw subs shipped from Boulder. Colorado as a whole collects no tax on out of state internet sales.

HSU has a special of $40 dollaars off the VTF-2 MK4. With shipping to Augdensburg NY, it will cost me $582. and additional $65 Canadian duty when I hall it across the border.

Outlaw with teh LFM1-EX will cost me $738 and teh additional $65 on Canadian duty.

The question is, is the Outlaw worth the extra $156 over the HSU or are they close enough in performance. I have pictures of my room setup in Joe's Galleries so you knwo how big the area is.

Why not an SVS, it's available up in the White North without all the hassle of importing something from the States?

Hard to say since we don't have solid performance numbers on the Hsu in question. The Outlaw does boast larger dimensions and a more powerful amplifier though, and it is a well proven quantity in terms of objective measurements for what that's worth. Either way, I don't expect there to be a world of difference such as going from a Bose Bass Module to a VTF15H.

Believe it or not Matt but its cheaper to go this route than it is to go thru the Canadian distributer for SVS. A comparable SVS in terms of performance would be around $800Cdn without taxes in. :( We Canuks are always getting the proverbial screw!! :(

The Outlaw is effectively a VTF-3 Mk III, so you'll have to make that call. IMO, the MkIV VTF-2 is likely to be similar to, but probably will not have the output of the Outlaw.

The VTF-2 MK4 is closer to the Outlaw LFM1. Is that what you are saying?

The Outlaw LFM-1 EX is effectively the VTF3 mk2, not the mk3. The mk3 is actually a bit better due to the larger ports.

Get Billy's sub.
Finding a local buyer is key for me because due to shiping weight (~100lbs) this thing would not be easy & costly. I know Ottawa is about 4hrs away but I'd be willing to meet half way....maybe 3db wants to buy "new" I certainly can understand that POV.

Thanks....Bill...:)~
