Hey all,

Before anything else i want to thank you for taking your time in reading this and for any help your willing to give ;)

So here goes, I'm currently looking to get a new 5.1 system for my home, now I know the room is a bit weird but it's what I got for now.

I'm looking for 3 different possibilitys:
1st - would be a system without thinking of the future and to be used forever in this layout;
2nd - second a system with the idea of upgrading in the future to a bigger and better room
3rd - lastly and the one that interest me most a combination of both the possibilitys above but a set up that will not be all bought at the same time (for example buying all the speakers first and getting the sub a couple of months later, or using satellite speakers for front and after changing room getting new tower speakers for front and then going 7.1, for example)

So if you don't have time for all 3 possibilitys just please give me the first or third :)

Again thanks.

Now for what you need to know:

It's going to be working with a 42'' LED Full HD, an XBOX360 (HDMI) and a computer (RGB + optical) and the occasional laptop (HDMI). Blue ray reader is not needed :p

Budget : 1000€ to 1500€ (in US dollar its 1280$ to 2000$) initial with the possibility of an extra 500€ to 750€ (640$ to 960$ US dollar) a couple months later

About me: I'm in Portugal so getting gear available in my country is a plus or from Europe, preferably UK. A quick way to find out if something is available is using this website (in portuguese) kuantokusta all you gotta do is put the item your looking for in it and if it shows up then it's available in my country, if this is too much hassle don't bother and I'll find a way to get it :).
Also, I'm a fan of mourdaunt short despite them not being available in Portugal but they are in the UK so I can find a way to get them, and I really like hearing those low frequency so I'd value a good sub even though I did suggest getting one at a later stage :p

I'm looking for any suggestion, even a home cinema kit or a full custom build.
I'm going to try to add a picture with the layout of the room, please bare in mind that's it's not exact it's a merely a sketch and the red spots are where I currently have a really crappy 5.1 system.

Once again THANK YOU for putting up with me!

What I would do first is stop opening double threads

It's hard to recommend specific model , but If I were you - I'd look into mid-range models from Wharfedale speakers - I heard them (Diamond 9 series) and liked them a long.

Cinema em Casa Wharfedale - Compare os preços das melhores lojas online em Portugal.

I would not recommend getting a matching subwoofer, instead find good sub from company which does nothing but subs... (Like Velodyne for example)

Sub has to be matches to room size (total volume, including ANY open spaces)
Getting larger (and more powerful) one is better if you plan to move. Sub can always be dialed down....

Lower Yamaha Receiver models would work fine for you.

sorry about the posts :s

The Wharfedale Diamond 10 seem to be easier to get my hands on compared to the 9 so after your suggestion maybe two pares of Diamond 10.4 for front and surround and a Diamond 10 CS for center with either a Yamaha RX-V573 or a Denon AVR 2113 ?

As for sub I wouldn't get one till January so would this set up work well without a sub for these few months??

I just mentioned 9 (or maybe 8) since it was a long while since I heard them and models did change since then.

You don't have to get 10.4 towers for surround (unless you intend to play multichannel music which is quite rare) - smaller bookshelfs from diamond 10 line would do just fine.

V573 is a bit too low for my taste, If you could get Denon AVR 2113 just for it's Audyssey MultEQ XT - auto room calibration and it does have better amp section vs V573

Re: Sub - 10.4 towers rated down to 38hz - which should be fine for a while, but trust me - I lived with big towers w/o sub for a while, but then I got decent sub (see my sig) - The difference in experience was huge !

As far as the av goes the the yamaha 573 is at 565€ and the denon 2113 is at 560€ so the denon so price wise they the same and I was leaning more towards the denon, just like you said the amp section is better and I do plan on using internet radio which the yamaha does not seem to have....

As far as the towers, well the 10.4 cost around 335€ and lets say the 10.2 cost 235€ however I do have to add the price of stands for the bookshelfs which puts them closer in price to the towers and yes if it is possible I would listen too music in a stereo multichannel way if possible.

As far as sub goes I really want one :p, I just won't be getting it all at once and I just don't want to feel like the system is unusable without a sub :p

Whats your take on Wharfedale vs Mordaunt Short in general?

Sorry, No particular opinion, honestly.
I know both are very good and solid brands, but Wharfedale products usually offers better value :)
