Onkyo 818 or Denon 3313CI

Any recommendations for these two AVR's? Both will do everything I need except the Denon cannot automatically switch my 7.1 setup to 5.1 when zone 2 is enabled. I know I can rectify this with a simple amp but will it be worth doing that or should I just go for the Onkyo?

LOL...There's nothing wrong with that. I've owned 2 Onkyo's in the past but I'm open minded and want the best for my money.

I'd go for the Onkyo it has Audyssey MultEQ XT32, while the Denon has Audyssey MultEQ XT. If that matters to you. Onkyo also has a Phono option.
Wish I had the money to buy one.
Owning 1 Onkyo myself.

The Onkyo TX-NR818 is a standout receiver in the under $1000 (street price) range. I have nothing but good things to say about Denon. But in this particular case, Onkyo really brought a feature set that cannot be beat at this price point right now.

Audyssey MultEQ XT32, THX Select2 Plus, superb video processing and upscaling from HQV and Marvell. It's a features champ.

Of course, if you'd like two independent HDMI outputs (the two HDMI outs on the 818 are just mirrored), THX Ultra2 Plus, independent dual subwoofer auto setup and EQ, and VLSC, you can step up to the TX-NR1010, which seems like a bit of an odd duck in the Onkyo lineup at first glance, but has a few, nice extra features over the 818 for its higher price tag.

But for under $1000? I've gotta vote Onkyo 818

Does the new Onkyos still have the heat problems? I have an older 705 model that I want to upgrade and the 818 looks great, but don't want the same hot issues.

They have fans now. There is a review on youtube I think the guy opens it up.

I have the 705 too...It get's very hot but I hear the newer models are much cooler.

Lower your 705 to 4ohms instead of 6ohms it will run alot cooler. I have the 707 and it worked for me.

i just purchased the denon 3313ci and Def tech mythos sts speakers with gems and the mythos nine center. I have a ps3 for games and blu ray and the panasonic 65vt50 tv. It's all brand new and i don't want to make a mistake with my system. I think the tv and speakers are fine but I am not sure about the denon. Is it all that I need or should i go with marantz or pioneer? The towers have powered subs but we'll have an extra sub to hook up as well. I'm trying to do a little research but it's greek to me! Help, please.

Curious how lowering the Ohm rating that an amplifier sees will lower its Temp. I always thought that the lower the Ohm rating goes (the speaker load the amp sees) actually raises its Temp.

Have I been wrong all these years?
