Definite audiofool trying to avoid a mistake...

First, thank you for taking the time to read.

I'm currently finishing a garage - 28.5' W, 27.5' L, 12' H. I was going to put 4-6 speakers in the ceiling but after reading posts on this website for a couple hours, I'm a definite audiofool...

The garage is going to be one 780 sq' workout room so there's no focal point to the room. We'll be using everything from the floor space to a rock wall and monkey bars on the ceiling.

I was going to put some speakers in the ceiling and wire them to some RCA wall plates I found. I was thinking this would be great but.....rethinking after reading... We will have a TV dead center near the ceiling on one of the 28.5' walls. Everything is wide open (walls & ceiling) and not 1 wire yet. We'll be mostly playing music and sports on a TV.

3 questions:
What type & where would you put speakers? What's a decent receiver? I was going to pull Cat5E, RG6 and Fiber to the garage (detached) does that cover the data needs?

Hi Matt34,

The room is a gym - free weights, universals, squat rack, rock wall, wrestling & gymnastics mats, etc. so we'll be all over the room.

I won't say we have an unlimited budget but we've allotted several thousand to finish the tv/audio portion.

If the music is for background, then ceiling is your best bet.

Sorry about that, completely missed that sentence in your first post.
