Help with Marantz SR-66U

Hey Guys,

Hope I can get some help here. I just moved into a new place and the old owner left behind his Marantz SR 66U receiver. From what I've read, it's a really good good receiver (from back in the day) and since it's free, I want to set it up for surround sound.

The catch... I see all of the desired outputs (front speakers, center, surround..) except for an output for a sub/LFE. Could it be under something else? Or is there another way to connect the sub? I tried googling it but all that came up where people selling them on ebay and guys charging $20 for the manual (which I'd prefer not to spend at this point since I don't know if it will even help).

The only other connectors I see are two that I don't know. There is a DCC (In and Out) and another output called Pre Out (with L & R outputs and a separate center output). Hope that makes some kind of sense.

So any advice on how to move forward would be great.

Thanks,
Gene

Subwoofer output should be in a Pre-out section(RCA). That receiver is quiet old, I don't know what kind of support it had for subwoofers. Does it Have Dolby Digital? If it only has pro-logic, it might be a high level output (speaker wire style).

Marantz's website is quite pitiful, and lacks the manual for that receiver. If I had to venture a guess though, it would probably have to be one of these (see below). Any pre-out should suffice as long as you're hooking up the subwoofer with a pre-out. Otherwise it will need to be hooked up using the outputs for the front L and R speaker.

I put a star underneath the one that I think is most likely it.

it is dolby pl circa 96-97. Surround quality would be minimal at best. I agree with using the main preout to the sub, that, or speaker level. What type of sub are you thinking of using? Maybe use the unit as a zone amp, and pick up a new surround recv.

Hey Guy,
don´t know if you´re still interested. You can get the Subout through a deep-pass-crossover that you´d have to place on (strong) Center-Out,
and so divide this Signal.
