Perp worked for local garment company for 6 years, was let go a year ago, couldn't find work, and was 53 years old. Older workers in particular are screwed nowadays.

Wanna bet this would not have done this if he could have found another job?

I don't excuse what he did. He obviously had problems and sane people know taking it out on innocents is wrong. Have you ever heard of the term "suicide by police"?

Being laid off in your 50's can easily be a one-way trip to terminal unemployment and some people simply can't handle the stress.

Hi, Mark - I hope that my post didn't come across as attacking yours. That wasn't my intention. I was just expressing my thoughts that being unemployed and upset, while a reason, is not an excuse for inflicting harm on others.

I have heard about suicide by police. My friend knows someone who did it (at least, it sure seems that's what he did). That's a whole other topic for me. I think it's selfish and cowardly to force someone to do your dirty work, and then put them in a position to feel regret about it for the rest of their lives.

It's amazing how few nuts try to rob or shoot up a police station. Probably because they know they wouldn't last long.
