In the market for a new 5.1 receiver and my main concern is getting the best sounding receiver for the money for music and blu-rays, im not a huge techy so alot of todays streaming services etc dont concern me plus i can pick up most of them on my smart tv ie.. pandora etc.... The only real add-on i'd like to have is a front usb for ipod connection. Don't need multi zone its for my family room only which is roughly 20x15 maybe slightly larger.

So all that being said it seems i can get a decent mid range receiver in the 4-600 rabge any thoughts on what might be my best option, i've looked at the denon 1613 +1713 (it seems the next step up to the 1912 or 1913 is mostly stuff i dont need, yamaha has a model 473 + 571 that seem to fit the bill as well (with the 671 + 673 both once again mostly stuff i dont think i need.

Any thoughts or other brands models to look at?

thanks for the info, love hearing everyones ideas and advice, all this stuff gets confusing especially alot of the new technology that i know i would probably never use, and of course most of that stuff is what drives up prices as well.

With Yamaha, I would stay from the 6XX series on up, Denon
and Marantz and Pioneer Elite are some nice receivers. I do not
get caught up in how a receiver sounds - and I have never put
a stethoscope against one yet.:) >> I look for receivers that
are built well and have good power handing, with at least 6 and
8 ohm loads >> and are efficient in surround modes.

Call Electronics Expo and see if they have any Denon 3312 they can sell for $550, matching the sale price from Amazon.

There is an interesting Onkyo in the bargain basement at accessories4less.com:

Onkyo TX-NR509 5.1-Channel 3-D Ready Network A/V Receiver | Accessories4less

It has the front USB port you wanted and actually exceeds what you say you need (and includes networking if you decide you need it in the future and a second zone) for 189 bones. I may be concerend with the 80WPC if you don't think that would be adequate, but it sure helps extend the budget for other toys if it is enough ;) .

I got a Yamaha RX-V667 that was last years model (a year ago) for $250 shipped and I couldn't be happier.
Smooth power-easy to control- and I got an iPod adaptor for it that shows the playlist on the TV screen, easy peasy.
Its a 7.2 surround and works awesome.
Look at Newegg and see what they have. Good luck.
