What do you guys think of the Primus P363 Floor, PC351 Center, & P153 bookshelf(surround), they seem really cheap and people give them good reviews. Is this like champaign on a beer budget??

I have the P360's and P150's. They are very good for the money. But more like imported beer at the cost of Miller. Champaign they aint.

They're great for the price, assuming you can find a deal.

You mean like $99 each at Frys for the P363? :) Problem is, the rest of them aren't always on sale.

Depends on the champagne. Believe me I've had bad ones. The Primus are great speakers.

Yup. The general enthusiasm and excitement for them is because they are very good for their price . They're not the "be all, end all" of speakers, and they're not "perfect". But at their low price point, and with them being on sale for ridiculously low prices so often, they just do so much more "right" than they do "wrong" that they're just a tremendous value.

If you have considerably more money to spend, there are better speakers out there. But if you have a limited budget, it's very hard to do much better. The Primus are the sort of speakers that can allow a new enthusiast to learn how to listen critically, and they provide a good frame of reference for when you are auditioning and comparing other speakers in the future. So I love them for that. They're a great entry point to high quality sound reproduction. And they'll allow you to identify and appreciate speakers that are even better, rather than completely warping your expectations of the way things are "supposed" to sound, the way most other inexpensive speakers do.

Pioneer is also making some great, very inexpensive speakers these days. The SP-FS52 towers look like they'll be a very exciting competitor that I'm VERY eager to audition myself. I can't vouch for them yet, but based on the previous SP-FS51 towers and the man behind their design, I'm excited about them. Always great to have another low cost option for good sound out there :)

Totally true :) I've had some stuff that was quite expensive and I didn't like it, and some cheap stuff that is good :)

I picked up their new bookshelf speakers from Best Buy - I am giving
them a shake down - there is a difference from the former speakers.
These are nice > better bass, better midrange, plus the new tweeter
and wave-guide works. They are really nice and good sounding, and I
do believe that the new series will hold their own and more, against
some of the budget speakers, that are not sold in places like Best Buy
and Frys.:)

Same here, I even gave the Primus another chance (bought them again) - they still had to go out again
and find a new home. However, I do understand why a lot of people like them, and they are decent for
the price.

I got them and they are good. There is nothing in Best Buy that
I would buy except for the new Pioneers. They have stepped it
up with this one. You should hear the bass that the little woofer
puts out. They cut a few corners - however not with the drivers
or crossover. There is no annoying sound with these speakers >
This reminds me back in the earlier days, when PSB and Paradigm
were putting out good entry level speakers. However, Paradigm
and PSB did not put as much into the crossover, as Andrew Jones
has done with these.

Nice I gotta go to BB and check them out. Are you getting S52's as well?

Not at this time - I only keep 5 sets of speakers at a time.:)

A speaker needs to at least knock off the modded Cambridge S30,
to take up some sort of residence in my place.:) >> The Pioneer for
$89 is a crazy deal for this type of performace, and worth more than
the $129 list price - this is still on the entry level side of sound >>
However, there is no showroom jump out and grab you voicing here.
They have their limits on power handling - however, they can handle
some power before they faint.:) And I will put them up against some
of the big name speaker brands out there, with higher list prices.

Thanks Z I might just order them. Can you post some pics. There are none online without the grills.
