Howdy all,

First post here. Getting ready to order the onkyo tx-sr313receiver and am looking for suggestions for affordable speaker suggestions. Not sure how to match speakers to receivers. Don't need to rattle windows. Just want to run my samsung tv through it and watch movies in good sound through a pc I have dedicated to my media center. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Cheers!

I am not an expert here, but in my experience you are putting the cart before the horse. I chose my speakers, which tend to be more significant in producing the overall sound of a system, then did my best to match a receiver to them. That is not to say it can't be done the other way around, I think it just makes your job more difficult by narrowing your speaker choices to something less that "all" from the begining.

I think I can put a medocre receiver together with a great pair of speakers, and get some sort of repectable sound if the system is al least tuned. If I put some crappy speakers together with a stellar receiver, the sound will likley just be ... crappy.

100% agreement here. Start with the speakers, then add the power you need to get the appropriate levels in your room. On the other side of that, if you start with too little amplification, you may very well limit the speakers you can choose from because you can't drive them.

Finally, when you say "budget" or "affordable" you have to include your actual price range, since those terms mean something different to everyone.

Thanks for the advice. In regard to budget, was looking to stay under $200 if possible.

Sorry for being so vague. Looking for speakers for around $200 and looking just for two with a sub with the option to add more. New to this so please don't get frustrated with me. Again, thanks for the help.
