Hello all,
I thinking of putting together a little 3.1 system in a den. I wanted three SVS MBS-02's up front but Ed told me they are only sold in pairs, he suggested wiring two MBS-02's in parallel placing them side by side and using them as a center channel, thus giving the amp a four ohm load for the center. I would like some of your thoughts on doing this with the center, I will be driving these with an older Onkyo Dolby digital DTS 7.1 receiver which has a robust amp section, I believe it is four ohm capable, it's an older 700 series receiver which weighs in at close to my 809. All inputs appreciated. The SVS MBS-02 looks like a really nice speaker especially at $500 discount per pair.
Thanks Jeff :)

Hi, Jeff. Did you and Ed discuss how the MBS-02's would pair with the SCS-02 center (which is $99 on sale)?

Adam, never thought of even asking, good call my friend, I will contact him with this query. Thanks again Adam for bringing this to my attention.
Cheers Jeff :)

Hello guys, new here. I also ordered a pair of the MBS-02s about a week ago! They'd been on my wishlist for a while, and when I saw they were on clearance again I didn't even have to think about it.

I am likewise curious to find out what you hear from Ed regarding a suitable center speaker. I figured I'd have to find a used MCS-02 (I think that's what they're called). I also read in another thread or forum about SVS coming out with a whole new line of high end speakers (that's the reason they're clearing out their inventory). I wonder if something from their new line would work.

i'd buy the 2 pairs, and use 3 pcs.
at the prices they're selling these M series bookshelves, it's like you bought just 2 anyway :)

you could try to sell the single piece to another person or keep it to sell as pair in the future.

Adam I did and here was Jack's reply (ED took the day off): "It's not bad as they're both designed with neutrality in mind but the MBS-02 pair is a much closer match as you might expect as it's exactly the same speaker. Same woofers, tweeters, etc. Much higher quality and dynamic range, as well". Makes sense to me.

Mike I agree 100%, the pricing as it is now is actually $100 less expensive for two pair than a single pair at the original selling point. Thanks for your reply, you can never have too many speakers.......:D

Marley, you can see my post earlier as what was said regarding a suitable center, I'm going to get two pair and use a single M-02 as a center, I'll hold on to the other one. You are correct about SVS introducing a whole new line of high performance speakers sometime in the fall, neither Ed or Jack would elaborate as what to expect but said I should be pleasantly surprised and worth the wait. They will be posting some info on site soon. What's your take on the M-02's, I quess that's a stupid question since you said your just ordered another pair.
Cheers Jeff

although i have an MCS-02, i couldn't use it in my bedroom because my stand was too small

so i "make do" with 2.1 :)

i'm still looking for a way to use a center, but the imaging on these guys (i have both MTS and MBS in my house) makes me take a double look if i have a center or not :D

Use the second one as a rear center for a 6.1 setup.... No 3.1 :) I am currently running 3.1 and the main place I miss the surrounds is on multichannel music.

Thanks John, I don't think I will miss the surrounds either, but I do have a pair of new Pioneer SP-BS41's still in the box that may see some use. I really don't need the MBS-02's but I can't resist the $399 per pair price, I have not seen a bad review of the 02's both pro and owner reviews.

Update

Hi everyone,

My speakers arrived on Saturday! All I can say is, 'Wow!'

My limited experience: a few crappy HTiBs, then I 'upgraded' to Mirage OMD-5s for the front, OS3-CC for the center, nanosats for the surrounds, and a Mirage sub (10"), powered by a Yamaha HTR-5063. I was happy with the OMD-5s for movies, but they left much to be desired for music.

Enter the SVS MBS-02. Listening to my iPod via the Yamaha dock in Direct mode, I was blown away. No need for a sub, at least not the one I've got. I don't know much, so my words won't hold much power, but I'm a very happy customer. Now I've just got to upgrade the sub and receiver...

Glad you're happy my friend, on the SVS site they have a sub advisor, just plug in your mains in the system and they will suggest the appropriate SVS sub, your words do hold much power, if you like what you hear that's power.
Cheers Jeff :)
