I know and I mean I felt encouraged because I e-mailed them and explained what I was trying to accomplish and explained I was looking at the 6K.

The guy who e-mailed me back said that for a sealed sub that isn's looking for maximum output I should go with the 1K instead and once purchased they'll include optimum box dimensions and plans for what I'm trying to do (reach down deep).

Saving me money? I'm willing to take a chance on a company that tries to do that for me. Unless someone has a horror story they'd like to share.

Does anybody have any experience with Pierce Audio? They look like great subs for a reasonable cost and the specs look pretty good as well.

Welcome

Paul is a great guy to work with! PAP is my source for drivers in some of my products.

I came thisclose to posting that Simply Sound Audio was using some of the Pierce drivers, but wasn't sure you wanted me to divulge your source so I kept quiet. :)

That's great to hear. It makes me feel better about possibly buying a few drivers from him.

Haha it's fine. I'm not secretive, everyone can know where I got my info. :)

Heck if I wanted to be secretive I would've bought the drivers built the subs and left everybody wondering, what 18" drivers are those?? :D

Actually, I was referring to the drivers Murrel uses. He and I know each other, so I have a bit of background information about the subwoofers he sells at SSA. Pierce is his supplier for some of the drivers.

That makes more sense now. However I will say it's not well kept of a secret:D

I found out about pierce from reading your review of murrel's subs and then looking at his website and doing some simple googling of murrel's subs. From doing that I ended up at pierce audio.

So now both of you know that it was because of you two that I'm asking about pierce at all.

So thanks :D

Really was not a secret. I love having an American company to deal with and I encourage people to give them a try!

Have a great weekend!

So I modeled the PAP subwoofer I was thinking of getting with this excel thing I found. Since I have a mac this is about as good as its gonna get for me in terms of modeling. Does this look right?

I didn't have the exact Sd so I just kinda fudged the number from a different 18" driver. I experimented with a few different numbers here and it didn't seem to make a tremendous difference in the FR graph so I left it like it is in the picture.

Hello, This is Paul Pierce owner of PAP. The specs would be a bit different than what is pictured here as we would build to your application with a lower FS. I will model it up and post a graph. The series 6K's would have too low of a Qts for sealed applications and the f3 would be over 50hz - 60hz. We can get nice and low with the series 1k sealed.

Thanks Paul, I really appreciate the help. I'm curious to see what it models like with someone who knows what they're doing modeling the driver.

Great looking drivers. The 1k's seem quite reasonably priced, wonder why these haven't been more popular in the DIY scene. Not easy to find many 15" USA made drivers at or under $300 these days, outside of Dayton.

New cone for my new sub. Just waiting on Paul's shipment to get in so he can start building.

Looks cool. Curious, why didn't you mention at the other forum who the manufacturer was?

What size box are you considering?

It was just a matter of getting honest opinions without other factors getting in the way. Kind of like a blind test.

I'm not sure what size box. I told Paul I wanted to go sealed and I told him what I was trying to get out of this build so he adjusted how he was building the sub to optimize it for my purposes and then is going to get the real specs from the finished sub to design a box that will fit it best.

Who would have thought that future NBA hall of famer, Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics, also builds subs! :D
