Hi. I got your PM, but I'll put up my thoughts here for the FLAC folks to rip me a new one. :) No pun intended.

If someone could map this out and dumb it down that'd be really helpful :)

Like...

step 1 - open itunes
step 2 - insert cd into superdrive
step 3 - ...

step 28 - drink a beer!
Steps (sorry if I miss some - it's been a long time):
  1. Open first beer. Partake. Hey, why wait until the end? :D
  2. Open iTunes
  3. In "Preferences", look under the "General" tab for a drop down box next to "When you insert a CD:". I suggest that you change that to "Import CD and Eject." That way, as you work through 200+ CDs, it will automatically import a CD when you insert it and eject it when it's done.
  4. Next to that drop down box mentioned above, click on the "Import Settings..." button and select the file format that you want to use, along with any settings for that format.
  5. Under the "When you insert a CD:" drop down box, I suggest checking the box for "Automatically retrieve CD track names from the Internet".
  6. In "Preferences", look under the "Advanced" tab to make sure that the "iTunes Media folder location" (which is where your files will be saved) is where you want it to be.
  7. Insert the first CD and make sure that everything gets imported the way that you want (right file format, right folder location, and sounds good).
  8. Celebrate success with a beer, or curse it for not working with a beer. Either way, don't give iTunes the power to change your beer drinking. :D
  9. After it's working correctly, begin the joyful process of reading in all your CDs.

Use a program other than itunes to rip to Flac, EAC, XLD, there are others. Keep those intact. Use XLD to transcode to a lossy format (MP3) and put into itunes library (a setting in XLD). XLD will do this in batches, you don't have to manually do every file.

whats the best format for moving things to the iphone/ipod (obviously a more compressed format to be able to fit more songs) ACC? MP3? other? Do you guys max out the kbps and stuff like that?
