Infinity Interlude vs. Primus

I've often wondered if the well regarded Primus series Infinity speakers would outperform my Interlude 10 bookshelf monitors. When the Interludes were available they were the line above Entra which I had always sort of assumed was, in it's own way, replaced by the Primus series.

My biggest beef with the IL10 is the speaker terminals, they resonate at a certain and common frequency in the mid-band (not exactly sure where, but I can find out if need be. I find them to be very involving otherwise. I've tried to null the resonance using several different techniques to no avail.

Would the Primus 163 be a suitable replacement? I think I would prefer the smaller cabinet. I'm using them in conjunction with a M&K V-125 subwoofer.

I don't know about the 163 but I have the 362 that likely has the same mid and high drivers. I found the 362 sounds very good with Jazz kind of music but it does not sound right with concertos and symphonies. I don't know how to describe the deficiency but to me it does not cut it for me. I would think with a sub the 163 would sound quite like the 362/263 but I am just guessing.

Well, it depends on what you are comparing the P362 to.

If you are used to the sound of high-end accurate speakers, then the P362 may not cut it.

But I think they sound just as good to me on symphonies & concertos as the B&W Diamond series. :D

No, seriously. If double-blinded, I'm not 100% sure if most people could tell the difference!

I'm listening to Mozart's Piano Concerto no. 21 right now on the P362 + dual Velodyne SC600IF subs, and they are sounding pretty darn good......just don't compare them to high-end accurate speakers is all. :D

And yes, I did listen to Piano Concerto no. 21 when I auditioned the 800D!

Okay, call me crazy and roll your eyes at me, but really.

But I agree that they sound better with jazz, pop, rock than classical music.

What? No one says anything about my comments?

Well fine. PENG already knows I will probably get a used 802D as soon as I find a great deal for one, preferably from a dealer showroom. :D

On dealer in FL had a used pair they wanted $6K for. I offered $3K and got rejected.:D

Next time I'll offer $4K. :D

I would take these over the 163. I really like my Beta 20's, nice full sound from a bookshelf.

I decided to try the Thiels in my room again in a different arrangement and so far it seems to be working well. I listen to music primarily in my bedroom so I think my most "music worthy" equipment should be in my room.

I decided to try the Aurelex Gramma in the room with the M&K V-125 and the results are pretty astonishing. I'm getting the low end sound I've been looking for. It's present, not overwhelming and commanding at the same time. Sometimes the overall sound is just so surreal.
