Here's the situation. I've had my Oppo for quite some time and have been very happy with it except for one annoying detail. I still have the ability to play ISO files from a hard drive and don't want to update the firmware. I have repeately turned off the update notifications and even the networking, but every time I power up the player they are both turned back on and I get the new firmware notice. I'm afraid the gf will accidentally update the software.

I contacted Oppo customer service already and they responded that they had never heard of any similar issues. The suggestion was that I unplug the ethernet cable. Not really an option since I stream Netflix. Interested to know if anyone else has run into this issue. If you found a solution I'd love to hear it.

Yes I have and if you ever find out a way to stop the OPPO from checking for updates let me know.

The 83SE had a similar issue at one point, not retaining certain settings and it almost sounds like what is happening for you. What they told me was to clear the on-board cache, do a factory reset (will not affect the firmware) and then go ahead use it again, though everything should be default at that point and you will have to redo any settings you had. If it is not retained, it is possibly a flaw in the firmware you are running.

Thanks for the advice. I gave it a shot, but it didn't fix the issue.

That POS you sold me? It's long gone......j/k

The DawgCrusher is going strong. It's overkill for the size of the room I have it in, but I'm still lovin it. No need for bass shakers in the couch here! What did you eventually settle on? I know you had JL and SVS subs for a while.

Block oppo's ip range in your router and then it can't check for updates.

I went to dual SVS Ultra's but then sold one and living with a single which is working just fine for me.
