So I'm pretty new at the home theater thing, I've been more of a high quality head phone guy. Could somebody point me in the right direction of building a 6.1 system with receiver for around 2000 dollars? I've been looking at boston acoustics and velodyne, are these good? Thanks

And these will all be hanging from the ceiling/ mounted to walls, just to clarify

So I have done my own research and came out with the following setup. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

(1)Velodyne Impact 12 Subwoofer
(2) Boston Acoustics Voyager 50 Outdoor Speakers (pool/deck)
(1) Boston Acoustics A 225C Center Channel
(5) Boston Acoustics SoundWare S Satellite Speakers
(1) Yamaha RX-V673 AV Receiver

Why do you desire to wall mount your speakers near the ceiling.
This can effect imaging and soundstage. I would at least, look for
a way to get the front 3 channels closer together, and near your
head/ear level. Boston does make good speakers - however, I do
not reccomend little baby type sat speakers, for the front channel
speakers. Also, the SoundWare and A225C will sound un-balanced
and un-even together, and are not really timbre (voice) matched.
Also, I would take a hard look at some ID brand subwoofers, they
do offer real good value for the dollar.

The only reason I'm doing that is because the way the room is pre wired. all the ports arr coming out of the ceiling, not allowing me to have any floor/tower/bookshelf speakers. Will this negatively affect the sound that much? The only speaker not on the ceiling would be the center channel, right above the tv.

If you are going to have a center channel, then compromise and close
the front left/right channel ports - it is worth it, if you can work it out.:)
Front speakers up high would be annoying and distract me, as the front
dimensional stage will be un-even and distracting. There will not be an
even sound-plane from left to right, or right to left > the action scenes,
sport events and concert shows, can be weird sounding.
If you are really going to do this, then forget the center channel and go
phantom center, it may be less distracting this way.

Thanks for the Info! Could I post some pictures of the room so you could really see what I have going on? I think I would benefit a lot from that if you dont mind. These pictures would have to wait until Monday whem I get back home though

Well that's my current setup. In yellow I have the hookups, and in red I drew possible speaker placement for the front three speakers? Now that you said not to use the ceiling hookups for the front three, ill abandon those and just hook them up to the receiver.

One question, can you move that Air Condition to the window
next to it?

I suppose so. It might be a little awkward but if it's necessary, sure

Compromise seems to be the name of the game with certain
set-ups. It is no fun listening to music or watching movies in
the heat - however, I would still prefer the left and right fronts
down near the center. It is up to you about the A.C. - however,
moving it can help a little with speaker placement.

I would match-up the A-25 bookshelf with the A-250 center. Did
you check pricing at Onecall or AC4L - white with black grill is >
$79 each.

There are no stupid questions.:)

Some stands here, the Boston will fit - Sanus stands
Sanus NF30 30" speaker stand | Vanns.com

I would put the L/R speakers on the side of the cabinet, make sure to
put the front of the speakers, a little forward of the front of the cabinet.

Surrounds is your choice, I could be happy with 3.1 in your room, I would
not do 6.1 > 5.1 is plenty. I would put surround satellites to the sides, >
not too far back

Okay, thanks for the help! What about sub placement. Would the corner behind the TV be an alright place? I might be able to fit it in there. And do I need an amplifier, or would the receiver do the trick?

A subwoofer will have its own built-in amp - a receiver is fine, and
you use the sub pre-out on the receiver to connect to the subwoofer.

I would find a way to place that sub in the open room, maybe as an
end table, or place it near your right speaker. You have to expierment
to find the best sub placement, so it can sound as balanced as possible
with your speakers.

Boston doesn't make an A250 center, did you mean A225c? Would this and the bookshelfs be timbre matched?
