LED Projection TV Must Die!

I can't deal with it anymore. My projection TV bites. I was waiting for the light bulb to go out as a reason to replace. Then, today I found myself turning on and off the TV to try to blow the bulb. LOL

I haven't looked into any new TVs in awhile. I'm somewhat satisfied with my older 46" plasma, but have been a little unhappy with the blacks. The hitachi projection tv needs to go!

I need approximately 50-55" flat screen that does excellent at blacks and action. I love sports, video games, and horror/sci fi movies, so a TV that does best for these situations will be what I need. I can spend 1000-2500. If it has 3D, that would be a plus. Sound quality doesn't need to be good since I have a audio system.

Any suggestions?

You don't need an excuse, just go get one. The fact that the one that you have is not dead at least means you might get a few bucks for it on the used market.

I think you mean a bulb based LCD projection set, not LED based right? LED based would likely last a lot longer than a bulb based projection system.

If inky blacks are a must, then you'll be looking at plasma.

Most people hope their bulb WON'T go out, and you are trying to kill yours :D LOL.

You could probably sell the bulb alone for more than the TV because someone out there needs that exact bulb and they aren't cheap :)

Well, I just bought speakers for my bedroom and now I want a new TV. Bulb goes out, no need to explain to bf why because a want turns into a need. The bulb is pretty old, so i wouldnt want to sell it knowing it is close to blowing.

It sure would be tragic if you accidentally spilled a drink on the bulb while you were inspecting it.

Just sayin'.

:D

Btw, if I were in the market, I'd be looking at the new Panasonic plasmas. The ST50 seems really popular, but I might gravitate to the GT50 if only because I think it would be better. I found this thread to be informative.

Just touch it with greasey fingers, it'll get a hot spot and shorten it's lifespan.
