LG BD-640 freezes when receiver isn't turned on

We've been having a weird problem with our Blu-Ray player. We have it connected to our receiver, but if we turn on the Blu-Ray player before the receiver, the Blu-Ray player will lock up and needs to be unplugged and plugged back in. Has anyone else ran into an issue like this? We have tried it on two different receivers and it does the same thing.

Thanks!

These sorts of HDCP handshake issues are common. Obviously Your BD player is not HDCP certified. If it does not get a return handshake when the receiver is off, it locks up.

You will just have to remember to turn your receiver on before your BD player. Your other option is to get an HDCP certified BD player. LG is pretty rotten gear.

Thanks for the reply. I figured it was something along those lines, but I'm not familiar enough with the standards. I actually never run into the problem when I'm using it since I always turn on the receiver and TV first, but my mom always just throws in the movie and then turns everything else on.
