My SVS Ultra is down, again.

Got done enjoying MI - Ghost Protocol last night, went to shut down the Ultra and realized the little green light wasn't on  it was to late to screw with, so I unplugged it and waited till this morning. Plugged it back in this AM and flipped the switch, green light comes on for maybe a half a second then turns off...repeat - same thing. This is a BASH amp that replaced the original one around a year ago after just under 3 years of service and under warranty, this one however is not. Called SVS, probably amp again, and not fuse, seeing how it tries to power up, although very briefly. So it looks like I'll be getting the new Sledge :) this time around, as soon as I fork up $399! ...any thoughts?

Sucks that it happened :( The sledge amp should be a very nice upgrade though :D

Maybe you don't need the sub, then. :D

Sorry that your amp went down...again. I agree, that sucks. Is $399 a reduced price, seeing as how you've had two of their amps go bad already?

Yeah that's what I thought...how did you not notice the sub wasn't on?

Wild thought

Any way to seal up the location of the amp and use external amp?

I'm pretty sure it must of been towards the end because of explosions and such. There was some confusion with SVS if the replacement amp was under warranty or not, one said yes, another no. Turned out it isn't, but I order the Sledge :D and should have it by Tuesday I hope. May have to re-watch MI then. SO anyone wanna buy a slightly use "AS IS" BASH amp?

the confusion was probably from the previous and current warranty period.
the bash amps had a 3 year warranty, while i think US customers get a 5? year warranty period from the sledge amps.

i think it's one of the reasons SVS moved from bash to sledge ...

the sledge version can squeeze a bit more output out of your ultra :) as per the CEA tests posted by HTS (bash) and AH (sledge)

So the driver & enclosure are identical between the older BASH Ultras & the Sledge Ultras?

Yeah, I hate powered subs with amps attached to them. As much as these subs shake, I just don't feel good having the amps inside it.

That's why I prefer passive subs and use amps away from all the shaking and with better heat control. And the Crown XLS 1000 DriveCore amp for $300 ($250 on sale) is 1100 watts bridged w/ 3 yr warranty, virtually silent, 8 lbs, cool.

You're killing me, Smalls! I'm trying NOT to buy one of those. :)
You have an excuse not to buy one yet. When you see it for $250, then you can buy one. :D

You know my Salon2 sounded great last night with the Crown XLS. :D

After 3 hrs, can't even hear any fan noise or speaker hiss (@ Stop) from 6 inches away. And the XLS DriveCore felt even cooler than my Denon.

But, don't buy one just yet. :D

No. No. No. No.:D

The $399 price is with a $200 discount for being a customer and buying replacement amp. The confusion was if the replacement amp (replacing the original under warranty) was or wasn't itself under a 'new' warranty, it was not, as it was a replacement amp. The new Sledge will have a 5 yr warranty however! So that is a good thing.

Doesn't identical mean "exactly the same?" :p :D
if we were both given the same dimensions to build, i'm sure i'll build it slightly different than you would (no fault of the measuring tape) :D

so they'd be identical, but not super duper exactly the same.

Sorry you are having problems with that amp. How old is your replacement BASH amp? If you purchased the replacement amp out of warranty, it will carry its own a 3 year warranty. If it was replaced at N/C under the original warranty, then it would be tied to the original warranty period.

The (this) amp replaced the original under warranty, it was a 'swap out', since it was a replacement amp, and the Ultra is now no longer under warranty so this one carries no warranty.

OK - got it. Contact us at custservice@svsound.com to discuss replacing that amp with a Sledge STA-1000D. I might also be able to get that component value for you - looking into it. It's not SMT so it might be a pretty easy swap out. No guarantees it will fix the amp, but it might be worth a try.
