Two wheels "without sound" No Way !

OK Members , friends, and fellow enthusiasts I am looking for some advice/help with an area that I know absolutely nothing about. My Brother has a beautiful Harley, 1200 cc something or other that looks stunning, I will put up a pic if needed but I do not have one at the moment. Well he comes by yesterday and shows me this speaker set up that hooks up to his mp3 so he can jam on down the road, he said it was kinda week and all that where as he could hardly hear it, period. I believe he tried to address it the lack of power and or sound by adding a small amp the boasted 130 w per channel, well the speakers were in fact powered speakers with their own built in amps, so he still cuts into the wire harness of speakers and adds the amp and all I could say to him was WT.. are you thinking. I did some testing on the amp and only the left channel works at this point in time and as for the speakers ( really neat little chrome bullet speakers by Harley Davidson) only one of those are working now the other sounds like tin foil in a blender at low speed.
I would like to know if any one knows what direction I can point him in to get a good quality system on his ride, any advice and or thoughts would be greatly appreciated and I would then relay this info to my Brother and help him to install it properly, Thanks sawz.

Ear buds under the helmet.
Thats not an option.
Maybe I was not clear enough in my first post but I am looking to install handlebar speakers with some type of amp that will supply the power.
earbuds are an obvious solution that i would not need forum advice to come up with.

Being able to hear things while you are riding a motorcycle can save your A**.
One day I heard a "Tink" I pulled over and inspected my bike. The noise was my
master link clip bouncing off of my exhaust.
I know harleys don't have a chain but you still need to be able to hear things.
Then again YMMV.

This ^ is exactly why earbuds are not an option :)

Harder to do on a little Sportster. The big Road Kings and Electraglides have no problem with these, as they use 26AH damned near car batteries. The Sportster 1200 uses a 12AH powersports battery, barely enough to start it and run the lights. The charging systems at idle are definitely not up to running them either.
Adding an amplifier to this bike is not really an option. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I am really making errors on this one, The Bike is an 05' Superglide if that helps any, it has a windshield and the other speakers were bullet style chrome that were mounted on the handlebars facing the rider of course, Thanks sawz.

That definitely makes a difference. All Dyna chassis bikes use at least 18AH batts and higher output alternators that are enough to drive dual ignition systems. Shouldn't be a problem using a small amplifier with a 5a current draw.
