I own the following. Polk LSi-15
Great mid and highs.
Bass sucks. Have to use a sub

Polk Rti 8....Suck.. Old and in the Garage

Infinity Primus 363
These are new and i got the for 250 pair from Frys'
These are in the bedroom.
They are OK. Nothing really stood out. Good highs and Mids. Bass is still Lacking.

Klipsch RF-82
These are in my HT set up room.
These are great for movies. The Horns are to bright for music in my 2 channel set up.Bass is very good

I am looking to replace my Polk LS-i 15's in my 2 channel set up.
Want some speakers that I won't have to use a sub with. Lows like the RF-82's or better. Highs and mid tones like the LSi-15's.
Is there a speaker out there like this? Budget 1800. Would like to spend less.
Would like to buy on Amazon since I have a store card with Zero intrest
This was talked about in another thread but now I have more specific descriptions.
I have been told the following
Monitor Audio RX6
JBL L890....

The LSi15 is essentially a LSi9 with some extra woofers. Personally, I felt the mids were what where lacking on the LSi line, especially for the price.

What size is your room? How do you have them placed? I kind of already said this in your other thread, but if you want great bass, you aren't going to have an easy time getting that from most mains even with a big amp. In a large or square room? That's even harder.

When you say bass is good on the 82s, I'd still have to say I can't imagine they are going to compare to even a good $500 sub.

How come in the old days we could get good bass out of our systems with no subs???
Room size is 16x11 with a 5x4 walk way into it. Placement is at the end about 8 feet apart. No toe in at all. I use the LSI15 with a Grotto sub which I want to put back into my HT set up.

I know A SUB will be better but what I am trying to do is get a good speaker that has nice low end too with clear highs. If I have to use a sub I will since my Emotiva USP-1 has good Bass management

Maybe it is just because you are used to the bass of your sub? I actually prefer not to have the sub on for most music listening. If you are looking for slam or infrasonics, you aren't going to get that in a typical tower speaker, possibly not even in your price range.

I know what you mean too, I went from some big boxes that had good 12" drivers in them with awesome bass to a sub/sat system and felt the sub/sat was lacking that "kick". Come to find that the kick was a peak room mode that having the two mains sort of doubling up on caused, so technically not good sound, but it was what I was used to.

What, exactly, do you mean by "old days"?

well for me that would be in the 80's
Isn't that when big box speakers with large woofers were in vogue and bass rarely extended below 40 hz or so?

Isn't that before digitally produced sub-sonic tyrannosarus footsteps and explosions were on our daily meny

Good bass seems to be your subjective interpretation. I'm not sure any stereo box speakers can provide objective good bass in a room.

Anyways I would consider building some 4 pi speakers with upgraded tweeter and jbl woofer.

I love Amazon. I buy so many things from Amazon.

But I just don't think the best speakers are sold on Amazon. :D

I say get the Philharmonic 1 speakers for $1600/pr + shipping, so around $1800 total.

Or Philharmonic 2 for $2,000/pr + shipping.

Philharmonic 1

Philharmonic 2

Both will go down to 32Hz @ -2dB, so even better bass @ - 3dB & -6dB, plus the room gain.

Hey, you never know, no offense to the OP but sometimes giving the benefit of the doubt is giving too much :p I'm sure the OP would've found them though.

Never heard the Bostons, but I have heard the kefs and totems. I really liked the totems and would have probably picked them over the kefs if I was buying a commercial speaker.

But if he has to buy something from Amazon, I would look at the NHT Classic Four or Q900.

The NHT Classic Four will have better bass.

Too bad the OP doesn't live in Florida. Somebody is going to get a steal on these NHT 2.9s (but it's local pickup only).
