I have a PC setup as a media (audio only for now) server, and am outputting an optical cable to the input of this receiver. I am trying to bypass all tone stack/dsp in the signal chain. when i hit the "direct" function, it eliminates the sub.

I heard that you can use the "straight" function at this point, but that's not working for me.

I am using av-1 as my input. would this work with an hdmi input? or is my only option to get another dac and input to the receiver as analog?

any help would be appreciated.

The direct function eliminates all DSP that is not needed to get the audio to the output terminals. This means eliminating the receiver's onboard crossover for the sub and eliminating YPAO and other DSP functions. The straight function routes the input signals to the appropriate channels. So in your case, as long the output signal of the PC is strictly stereo, it will only send out to the mains +sub. If you have multichannel signals, it will route to the other channels defined by the output signal of the PC. Since straight uses DSP, you have to leave Pure Direct disengagaed (don't use it) .

that's what i would have suspected, but when trying to gain access to the "straight" function, i get a "not available" message on screen. I am wondering if it is because the receiver is receiving pcm from the optical cable, although i have no idea why that would matter.

i just tried it again. it seems the "straight" function is only available for analog in, not digital. that's a bummer.

thanks for the help.
