Sony bluray turning tv on and off

When I wanted to play a CD or stream music with my Sony bluray I couldn't do it without the tv on. When I shut the tv off, the bluray shut off. I thought this was a waste since when playing a cd there was no need for the monitor to be on.

I think it was MarkW that thought this was annoying as well. This is what I did to solve the 'problem'.

Go to setup, scroll down to system settings, then go to control for HDMI and set that to off. Problem solved. No more wasted electricity.

I always check my options upon first setup and I always disable that :) There are a few different manufacturers who have the same sort of thing.

HDMI CEC control is stupid. It's on almost every single device from most manufacturers and is typically ON out of the box. Oppo Blu-ray players, offer it, but when you buy them they are OFF by default! Very nice.

Denon receivers, and many other devices support CEC and have this capability turned on. So, you want to be really sure to turn this feature off if this is not something you want to utilize. IMO, it tends to really suck, so find out where it is on your product and disable it.

HDMI Control: Off/Disable
HDMI CEC: Off/Disable

Suprised you've lived with it for five seconds without asking here...

If you did ask here, then I would have been able to tell you what was up and how to fix it had I seen it.

Does that affect video and audio from BD discs through HDMI cable?

HDMI CEC can be great in certain basic setups but it really only works well with components of the same brand. I have installed many Sony TV's with Sony Blu-Ray players and for people that do not want to invest in a universal remote system this is a great setup because when the Blu-Ray player is turned on the TV automatically switches to that input and when it is turned off it automatically switches back to the last selected input.

CEC also works great with sound bars from Yamaha and Sony TV's because the sound bar turns on and off with the TV and the volume commands from the TV remote control the sound bar and audio is passed through ARC through HDMI which makes operation as simple as if there was no external sound bar.

CEC has it's place but poor implementation, especially between different brands, is what really kills it.
